with 6 on board

quote:

With the Coast Guard search for the fishing vessel Destination suspended, the focus is now turning to solving the mystery of what happened to the 95-foot Bering Sea crabbing boat and its six crew members.

Investigators trying to determine what caused the deadliest Bering Sea crabbing disaster in more than 20 years will have little to go on: Hardly a trace of the Destination or the six men aboard has been found.

The 95-foot boat disappeared in the waters just off St. George island Saturday morning. The last two major vessel losses in the Bering Sea crab fleet happened in roughly the same area — within about 100 miles of the Pribilof Islands of St. George and St. Paul.

i believe some of the crew were brothers

My brother is a marine biologist and worked fishing vessels in those waters for years. Dangerous water up there. Somebody dies in that fishing industry yearly it seems like. Crazy a 95 foot ship can go missing.

Weren't they ridiculously close to St. George. I think I read they were 2 miles off the coast. Something catastrophic had to have happened for it to disappear that quickly, no?

They sank, setting off their EPIRB, which led the Coast Guard to an oil slick, debris field, life rings, and other items showing the vessel went down about two miles off St George.

How is that "without a trace"?

Some rogue waves can flip a 95 boat like a bath toy. If they had hatches open when this happened, it's game over.

misleading title a bit. I thought one person disappeared. i'd suggest editing to crabbing vessel w/ 6 aboard.
