Just throwing this out there, I like your analogy in the pick up game to describe player mindset. Nice

Great. I believe Crewz so we essentially are mortgaging our 2017 and 2018 draft picks to now KEEP Jrue? That sounds about right but holy shite. Jrue fricking Holiday will be responsible for 4 Pelicans draft picks, at least 3 of which will be top 10 picks Lololololoolol. frick you Demps. Seriously. frick you so hard.

He happens to be having a very good contract year and Demps seems to become infatuated with keeping him at all costs. Watch, we will waste the picks and he will walk in free agency.

Get ready for a lecture on sunk cost.
Presumably they will get some decent players back for those picks. We will have to see what it looks like. But I get your point.
At that point, Demps will have traded EIGHT first round draft picks.
8.

I'm curious the difference in the caliber of player you get protecting the pick vs not protecting the pick. Presumably it's not much difference but if that 10-15% is the difference between decent and good, quit being a pussy, play the odds, and man up instead of being scared you'll look like an arse cause we got the 2nd pick.
And yeah FB, there is a reason I said "responsible" instead of using a word like "cost". You understood it though. I mean this baffoon is trying to keep a 34 win roster in tact at all costs and hoping a couple 3-4 win share players will make us relevant? God man. This is worse than Shinn. It is. I'm sorry. You lucked into Anthony Davis, quite literally because your dumb arse Lakers trade doesn't net us AD. And you can't even put a .500 team around him? It's so sad.

In some ways yes, in most ways, no.
It is pretty bad though.

No, he lucked into Mickey Loomis. If Loomis wanted a set it and forget Pels he should have fired Demps, hired JVG and checked back in 3 years.

Anyway to dump Asik? Any talk of interest in that contract?
Posted on 2/16/17 at 2:46 pm to slutiger5
No teams are interested in any traditional centers. They stupidly signed him to a long deal with stretching as a known possibility and it looks like that's what they are going to do. In the offseason if they can't find any takers and need cap space they can stretch Asik and his cap hit goes down to $3.5 million...for 7 years.

I'd rather just keep him for the two more years and then cut him that last year when it isn't guaranteed.

Don't see us holding onto both tyreke and drue in the offseason. But don't know who would take tyreke. Hayward would be a huge pickup if he doesn't sign with Utah. We need another freak draft pick. Little optimism for the next 17 months.

Tyreke is a FA. We won't re-sign him.
We have no shot whatsoever at Gordon Hayward.

I'm aware. And change that last sentence from Hayward to any valuable FA.

Dell has no choice but to keep the 2017 draft pick because of the salary cap. The team doesn't have the cap flexibility to get an established player and sign Holiday to a max contract.
Money will convince Jrue to stay. Like Asik, Dell will overpay and bid against himself.
Holiday's market is limited especially if Philly drafts one of top points in this draft. That leaves the Knicks as his only option.

I think we could convince Tyreke to come back on a two year deal for 20 mil with a player option. He's a good sixth man when healthy. I don't think we'll lose him if we fall out of the playoff race and keep our pick.
I say this because Tyreke's style of ball doesn't fit the current NBA model of winning basketball. Maybe the market isn't as good as we think it will be for him. He's coming off knee surgery still.

Just catching up on this thread.
Seems like we are all in for an injury-prone point guard, who plays elite D and average O, and we may have to pay him 25-30M a year? On top of that we may have to trade multiple first round picks, most likely lottery picks, to make that happen?
JFC. In what world does this make sense.
Teague's advanced stats are as good or better than Holiday. Why not deal Holiday to PHI for picks and/or assets then try an sign Teague or a comparable player for much less money? That way we take PHI's big pile of chips out of the equation.
ETA: Who give a shite about making Holiday happy. We should be trying to make AD happy, and the best way to make him happy is to shoot for a good team a few years down the road.

In a world where a man is just trying his best to play the bad hand he dealt himself. Tom Benson's investment in the Pelicans has doubled in the short time Dell Demps has been running the team. Nobody ever focuses on that. Nothing but haters up in here.

The 2 are related. AD is not going to be happy with a rebuild. The only rebuild plan that is likely to make him happy would be difficult to execute. Tank your way to a top 2-3 pick, and being the worst team doesn't even guarantee that, and then flip that pick and other assets for Jimmy Butler. All of this assumes Chicago would actually trade Butler and Boston wouldn't outbid you.
There is no tank strategy that is likely to make AD happy. 2 years from now if AD turns down the truckload of money we'll look back on these dark days and say we should have just traded AD to Boston for all of their picks and young assets, or to Philly for a Simmons and picks based package.

why can't we resign jrue big money, keep ad happy, add pieces and parts and continue chugging along?

quote:You don't honestly think Demps had anything to do with that? Much of that was because of the stupidity of Sterling which caused the Clips to be sold for $2 billion driving up the value of the remaining clubs. As a matter of fact, I do not believe the Hornets were the lowest valued franchise when Benson bought them.
