Outdoor patio cover/pergola. Cedar vs treated pine

Is the Cedar worth $2300 extra?

Treated pine will still need maintenance done on it from time to time. Cedar should be ok. Appearance might change and look weathered but shouldn't rot

do the framing pine and the rest cedar. Use cypress if your are a OT Baller Baw

I used Cedar. Never had a problem. I hear the pine can start warping on you after a couple years.

I would paint it if you go treated

It depends on the overall value of your house and neighborhood. If you are planning to stay there forever, go Cedar. If you're gonna sell the house, and fear you might not get your money back from the pergola, then stick with treated pine. You'll enjoy it the same. But the next owner probably won't pay you for it unless it's in an OT Baller neighborhood.

Cedar will weather nice and will look better. Don't use cypress. It will rot in less than 5 years.

What about engineered wood products? Is there something that will last longer than Cedar?

for an OT baller, this can be recovered by having your employees work an extra couple hours.

shite better not rot, I'm 3/4ths the way done on a patio with cypress on the ceiling and around an outdoor kitchen.
