Anyone experienced in this lately or know if it's faster to mail it in or go to a post office?
TIA

I think you can visit the passport office in New Orleans and get it before you leave, if you want to pay fee for them to expedite it.

yep... within 6 weeks of flight and your ticket ALREADY purchased. you can go to your local (or closest) passport office and request one that day. usually takes 3 hours or so.

You can mail it in and get it back in less than 10 days if you pay to have it expedited.

This. Went to courthouse ( mortgage records/ passport renewal) in BR. Overnighted, and got new one in 9 days. Shocked by the competency of federal govt.

A new one, or got a renewed one?
Also, to the OP, if it is an emergency you can call your senator's office and request them to put you in for an expedited passport. Those are damn near guaranteed to be in your hand within 24 hours (unless you have a criminal background).

my old one was gone to shite from all the travel so they issued me a new one.

I know I can get one in my hands in less than 12 hours if absolutely necessary, but that's not the case. It expires in a few months and I just want to have it taken care of before I forget.
It's a have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it kind of thing.

quote:shite... I knew that "3 hours" was bullshite. You didn't even get a renewal, you just got a replacement. There's a world of difference between getting a first time passport, getting one renewed for another 5/10 years, and getting one replaced because you ran the old one through the wash or something similar.

I'm not sure if I was renewing a passport or getting a new one, mine was expired for over a year so I don't know how they classified it.
I walked into the passport office in ELP, paid the expedited fee, completed the forms, and it was ready for pickup within a few days.

the first one i got in houston took 4 hours. and a replacement passport is the same process as getting a new one, genius.

New Orleans passport office, pay about 200$ and have it done that day. Have your plane itinerary in hand.

See Frank at any Pawn shop anywhere and he'll take care of it. Bring cash.
