When my dogs had puppies, every time we'd let them in the back yard the hawks would come from the woods behind our house and circle the yard.

We made a small pen area next to the house for our Maltese. 8 years and no problems so far.

Same exact thing happened to my niece's family.

Mother in law came to visit and let her little dog out to pee (North Shore Area), they found the dog 3-4 houses down the street half eaten.

A neighbor witnessed the hawk swoop down and fly off with the pooch

They are known as raptors for a reason. Hell... Just watch the movie The Secret Life of Pets and you would know this.

Real question: What kind of clearance does a hawk need? I have a small animal in an area covered mostly by trees. Does that diminish the risk?

I'm going to hell.

The only thing that popped into my mind was hearing Poo Pou Broussard's voice from his Cajun Titanic skit saying, "Look Rose, I'm flyin!"

I wish a hawk would do that to my mom's stupid assed dog. Worst dog of all time.

I have a 12 pound and 17 pound dog. I wonder up to what size dogs hawks/eagles will attack?
