I think they should get rewarded with an automatic playoff berth, not home field. The other team won more games.

What if one team would have been the 2 seed if they were in a different division and the other team had no teams with a winning record inside of their division?

Only because you have it in your head that a division winner should host a playoff game. There's no measure that says the Texans were better than the Raiders other than the Texans won the AFC South.
