I am wondering if the way he states the miles in his description threw you off. He says he bought it with 65k but has doubled it.

I'd pull the carfax and see what type of collision this truck was involved in that caused it to be classified as "totaled"
I had a front bearing/axle break on a 10 year old truck and the insurance company decided to total it out and cut me a check. It was a very good offer so I gladly accepted.
If this truck was involved in a similar situation, you could certainly offer around 5K, settle on $6K and get another 100K miles out of it.
You need to check the motor out with an extensive test drive. Take it to highway speeds and see if the motor is still whisper quiet. Those GM 5.3L motors are solid but tend to suffer from lifterslap with higher (100K+) mileage.
If you buy it, don't skip out on oil changes and always go synthetic as recommended by GM.
And to answer your question, I would not buy/drive it unless it was an absolute steal of a deal and was not intended to be a daily driver.

this truck was in a roll over.

You can buy the same truck with a clean title for $10k. That seller is nuts with that asking price.
Posted on 1/23/17 at 8:20 am to finchmeister08
That truck is worth no more than about 6-7k at most.

Sorry Op, didn't read that part...
I'd stay away.

Do not buy a vehicle with rebuilt title, especially it was rolled, you dont know what long term damage is on vehicle. Especially if you are not getting huge discount (he bought the truck for probably around $6k from insurance company).

you are insane considering that.
I paid $7500 for this 08 model with salvage title.

have you regretted it? had any problems with it that you wouldn't have with a clean titled vehicle?
Posted on 1/23/17 at 10:33 am to finchmeister08
Sounds like your mind is made up that you want this truck.
Normally I'd stay away from reconstructed titles to start, but with this one being way overpriced it has a double reason to be avoided.
Update us when it breaks down on you in two months.

Being listed at 9995 you can probably get them down to around 8 for that as well

Had 75,000 miles on it when i bought it. I actually bought it with a salvage title but all the work was done to it already and they gave me the receipts to get it converted to a reconstructed title.
Was a very easy process and it's been a great truck. KBB on a clean titled similar vehicle was $13,000 so i got it for half.

10 year old truck with rebuilt title for $10K. No thanks. Maybe $3K.
Posted on 1/23/17 at 11:57 am to finchmeister08
I'm sure you can find a 10 year old GMC truck in good condition without a salvage title.
If you are just using this thing on your land for the next 15 years then go for it.

Looks like it is in okay shape. Needs a wash.
Was it flooded? Wrecked?

quote:it was wrecked and the paint is less than perfect. All the body lines line up so i was ok with less than perfect paint for the purchase. It also had the 4.8l v8 which was what i was waiting on finding. frick the 5.3l with the dreaded AFM lifters.

OP, If you're in Florida and close by you might want to go check This out. Hell of a deal if it's in as good of shape as it appears. And it has the 4.8.

I wouldn't have done it, but after putting about 180,000 miles on one, it doesn't really bother me. Started burning between 1/2 and 1 quart every oil change after about 7 years/145,000 miles. Annoying because I took very good care of the vehicle, but not a deal breaker.
I'd buy an AFM equipped truck way, way before I'd buy one with those abrupt automatic start/stop features. In a few years that crap is going to infect every new vehicle on the market.

burning oil is not the issue with the 5.3l AFM equipped .
Having the lifters collapse and stay collapsed to where a cylinder head removal and lifter replace is the issue. Also rounding off camshaft lobes is another big issue with the AFM lifters.

Never had a problem with mine. If you are concerned, then get the 4.8L or the 3/4 ton with the 6.0L.
