Glock is a bit easier to conceal. I'd say the glock out lasts the Sig in a tough test. The Sig may be a bit more accurate. I'd have to shoot both side by side.

I have no clue, but I'd imagine it's for options.

In an urban environment it entirely possible to be in close enough quarters that even a carbine barrel may place an infantryman at a disadvantage.

Also, you are going to want a secondary weapon in case the rifle jams in a firefight. And it's not like the typical infantryman will want to carry a backup rifle.

I guess it really suits a CQC role best.

Anyway, I'm derailing this thread enough.

they didn't say what version of the P320 they'll be going with. Will they stay with the 9mm like we had on the M9 or will they change back to a .45?

I was under the assumption the entire reason for the bidding process was to go back to the .45
I found it interesting they didn't specify it was going to be a .45.

Is there a specific reason they wanted to go back to using a .45 other than just a bigger caliber? I know nothing of how military contracts work but it's interesting

Serious doctrinal question here: what purpose does a handgun serve in combat besides as a backup? I could see them being issued by tankers, pilots, etc for self-defense but an infantryman would be able to carry more rifle ammunition instead of carrying a pistol and its subsequent ammunition

A backup is really all it's intended to be. It's a means of giving us some form of self defense in the event our tank becomes inoperable and we have to dismount.

Each crew had one M16 issued as well. It stayed stowed in its rack next to the TC's leg unless we were in bivouac. During those times the tanks in the formation would form a circle, main guns pointed outward. They'd also send one member out front with the M16, usually the loader or driver, to pull OP duty.

One of the major goals of the effort was to adopt a pistol chambered for a more potent round than the current 9mm. The U.S. military replaced the .45 caliber 1911 pistol with the M9 in 1985 and began using the 9mm NATO round at that time. In their statements, Army and Sig officials didn't specify what caliber the new Sig Sauer pistol will be.

Sig touts the P320 model product as "modular" and "adaptable," with interchangeable grips, multiple sizes and calibers that can be converted between 9mm, .357SIG and .40SGW. "From calibers, to pistol size, to the grip fit best suited for the shooter, the P320 is the most adaptable pistol available today," the company says in promotional materials. Two sources confirmed to Military.com that Sig submitted to the Army .40-caliber and 9mm pistols for consideration. One source said the Army ultimately selected the 9mm version.

Most infantry don't carry a sidearm. Officers do. Crew served weapons personnel do. Specialty types etc. Not everyone does.

To answer some of the questions posed here.

1. It will be a 9mm. The idea of going back to .45 was floated at one point but faded quickly. Most LE agencies, who use pistols more than anyone else, are going back to 9mm and the MIL took notice of this. Modern bullet designs are making the 9 every bit as good as old versions of .45. Plus (the real reason) in today's "integrated" world, many personnel are unable to qual with the larger heavier recoiling rounds.

2. Glock was never seriously considered as the test samples they submitted didn't fulfill the base contract requirements. The contract called for a MODULAR Handgun System (the contract is called the MHS) and required the ability to change calibers, barrel lengths, grip frames, etc and also specifically required a frame mounted safety. Glock just submitted their standard model pistol.

3. Sig came in at or just below Glocks price bid. A pretty big deal on a program valued at $520 million dollars. Of course, a large chunk of that value is ammo which will never be purchased.

Source. I got in from SHOT last night and spoke to the DoD contract personnel when I was there.

Did you see John Wicks's glocks?

Also a lot of the booth ladies look pretty trashy in the videos I have seen. Can you confirm if there were any legit hot ladies there and, if so, which brand were they repping?

I did see the movie guns for John Wick. Nicely modified pair of pistols. They had them in a case though and wouldn't let anyone handle them. As I understand it, Taran Tactical did the modifications to the pistols. The Glock accessories are off the chain now. You can literally build a pistol from aftermarket parts.

As far as the booth babes, while there are some trashy ones (not complaining) there were just as many OT 8.5's walking around in business suits working for the big corporations. They just don't get in front of the cameras. The firearms industry is BIG business and I think they are getting many of the ones that used to gravitate to pharma sales.

I assume house clearing. Some of those hadji houses can have tight spaces. Maneuvering the way you need to could be hard to impossible with a rifle.
