Mass. Sheriff offers up his inmates to build Trump wall

That might be the best idea I've heard in a long time.
I would even go a bit further. Decide on some wage for them and put it into an interest bearing account. Upon completion of their sentence, they get 10% off the money they earned while working on the wall.
They go two years without getting in additional trouble, they get all of the money.
Someone tell me how this wouldn't work.

A Massachusetts sheriff on Wednesday unveiled an outside-the-box proposal to help make President-Elect Donald Trump’s proposed border wall a reality — inmate labor.
quote:
Thomas M. Hodgson, who was sworn in to a fifth four-year term on Wednesday as sheriff of Bristol County, is pitching a plan to create a nationwide consortium of sheriffs who agree to make inmate labor available to respond to the aftermath of hurricanes and natural disasters — and for ambitious national building projects. One possible application would be to provide labor for the construction of a border wall.
quote:
“I can think of no other project that would have such a positive impact on our inmates and our country than building this wall,” Hodgson said in a prepared statement. “Aside from learning and perfecting construction skills, the symbolism of these inmates building a wall to prevent crime in communities around the country, and to preserve jobs and work opportunities for them and other Americans upon release, can be very powerful.”

We used to make out prisoners build roads to pay off their debt to society instead of sitting around and watching tv. I like this idea. Hell offer low level on-violent offenders a chance to work off years of their sentences.
ETA: They stopped using inmate labor when wardens were caught taking kick backs. Also, the unions didn't like getting undercut.

This is where slavery is still legal under the 13th amendment.

Oh, shut up.

I'm sure they'd do an awesome job.

Make it voluntary for a slightly discounted construction wage. I know I'd rather be outside on a jobsite rather than sitting in a cell. I like the delayed payment as well.

Let the pay be the ability to buy tax free cigarettes

It's a wall, not a bridge.

Have you downvoters actually read the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution?

I'm more in line with making the illegals build the wall if they want to stay in this country.

You would think that.

i have a better idea.
We could literally make Mexicans build the wall. If caught here illegally, incarcerate, then offer path to citizenship and freedom by way of labor force involved in building wall. After certain amount of hours achieved, welcome to America.

Yet, you drag your pompous arse in here and offer no other alternative ideas.
Typical bootlicker mentality. Wait for someone to tell you what to think.

Not a bad idea at all. Chain gangs were a good thing at one time. Look at how Angola thrives.

Yet you never heard of this idea until this week and all of sudden you champion the idea.

I'm sure Sheriff Joe is on board. Dude should be in charge of ICE.

I don't know if having illegal immigrants build the wall is a good idea. Seems they would be in a position to weaken the border security.

Quality or effectiveness of the wall is meaningless to Trumpkins. They're in it for the sick tweets.
You have to be delusional in the first place to believe building a "wall" 2000 miles wide is going to make a dent in illegal immigration while the economic incentive (jobs) remains.

What? Do good ideas require a time to simmer or something?
Actually, using prison labor is an age old idea and has worked very well over the years. Has it been abused? Sure it has, just like entitlements but we didn't do away with them did we.
Unlike what you clowns think, prison isn't supposed to be a cake walk.
