As fricked as it already was, the Tyrod Taylor situation has gotten a whole hell of a lot messier.
A quick recap, for those of you just tuning in: the Bills benched Tyrod Taylor for the final game of the season, a “business decision,” made without the input of the head coach, that was meant to keep him from getting injured. Why? Because of the terms of Taylor’s contract, in which his 2017 money is guaranteed for injury only, the Bills can cut him this offseason and owe him nothing. But if he’s hurt, they can’t cut him, and would have to pay him a whopping $27.5 million for next season.
So the Bills tried to shield him in Week 17. But what if the injury were...already there?
Taylor had surgery this morning to repair a sports hernia, or a tear to the muscles of his groin and lower abdomen. The Bills say the had no idea this was even a possibility until Taylor informed the team yesterday. They put out quite the statement today, and pay close attention to their choice of words.
“Bills QB Tyrod Taylor had a consultation visit yesterday with Dr. William Meyers and elected to have surgery this morning. The Bills were informed late yesterday of this morning’s procedure.”
The Bills were very clear to note that they did not recommend, sanction, or have anything whatsoever to do with Taylor’s surgery, which he “elected” to undergo. This wording is no accident, and could be a very big deal in, oh, exactly 65 days.
The Bills must decide whether to pick up Taylor’s contract option by March 11. They obviously don’t intend to do that. But in order to be released, he must first undergo a physical with team doctors. He’s got to pass that physical if the Bills are to release him without being on the hook for that $27.5 million.

frick the bills for that shite. He was loyal to them, played well, signed a VERY friendly deal that he expected to be long term, and probably had no intention of forcing their hands.
they tried to frick him over and he said screw you right back.

I would do the same thing. The bills are bitches and deserve this.

Recovery is about 6 weeks, 20 days or so before the date in which all he has to do is pass a psychical, and they can cut him

This is why the Bills suck

This opinion might not be popular, but it sounds like the Bills are operating within the terms of the contract.
The same can be said about statistical incentives. The teams are the ones that risk winning or losing from benching a player to potentially avoid paying incentives. You hear it all the time, it's a business. Things can get nasty with this level of negotiating occurring.
Having said all that, I think Taylor outperformed public expectations when given the contract, and did well for the bills, so it's nevertheless a pretty shitt thing to do

Yeah, okay.
Get back to me when Taylor becomes a 4D underwater chess grandmaster.

I saw a report on the espn bottom line saying he was visiting a specialist last week, yet the bills don't know. What a shitbox of an organization

I don't blame the Bills for sitting him in week 17, and if I'm the Bills I'm disputing this as well if he randomly came up injured after week 17 and didn't consult with a team physician once about said injury.
Let's be honest, if they let him play and he tore his ACL, you would all be laughing and talking about how terrible the Bills organization is for losing $27mil on a QB they let get injured in a meaningless game.

He should be able to heal from a hernia surgery well before March 11. I don't think he's going to win this case. This type of wording, according to the article, is very commonplace and was done with both Kaepernick and RG3. He'll most likely heal, get cut, and nothing will happen. It'll be interesting if he re-aggravates the hernia injury because then it'll come to whether this is a result of playing for the bills or if the re-aggravation was something separate and individual incident after the season was over for which they're not responsible.
