The Rose Bowl is outrageously overrated. No one gives a shite about the venue when watching a game on tv. It's all about who is playing. Usually the Rose Bowl is a shite matchup and I usually skip it.

When was the last time Penn State played in a Rose Bowl?
2009 season, also a loss to USC

It's sad that a lot of football fans think a trash game is an 'instant classic' just because a shitload of points are scored and the game is close. The Sugar Bowl usually has a better and more interesting matchup every year. This year would have been

This year would have been
insane if LSU had been playing Oklahoma

TBH, LSU would have been far more competitive against OU that AU was. I wish Guice had run the right way and scored on that last play verses Florida so we could have been in that game instead.
Although, it sure was fun dismantling a heisman trophy winner.

I don't even have to look but I'd venture to say the Rose Bowl has had the best games in its history compared to the other bowls - just from memory.
And...
"No one gives a shite about the venue." - seriously dude, that's like saying...no one gives a shite about Star Wars (because you don't like Star Wars.)
Every Rose Bowl I've watched over the years...they always talk about the venue, the setting, the Rose Parade, how excited the players are to be playing there and experiencing the Rose experience, which is a week long event. It's college football's version of the Super Bowl to the players and fans...who pay exorbitant amounts - always the top ticket draw to be there. They aren't paying that money just to experience the Cotton or Sugar Bowl..."sun setting over the...the...the...Dome."

Not really surprising considering all of the traditional powers playing in them. Bama, Ohio State, USC, Penn State, Oklahoma.

The Rose Bowl has the best setting and features an intersectional match-up of West Coast and Midwest teams which give it appeal as well. Alabama v. Clemson while a playoff game is two Deep South teams but the Rose Bowl truly is a national game.
They have been wise to stick to the Big 10/Pac 12 matchup. They always sell out and they get the higher ratings through time. They are doing the right thing.
College football is about tradition and pageantry Jerry World and the Georgia Dome and yes the Superdome just don't have the same setting.
