Alabama band to march at inauguration, igniting controversy

Seems like the people who have a problem with this are few in number for now, but things might change.
Why is this a problem for some?

The marching band of Alabama's oldest private, historically black liberal arts college has accepted an invitation to perform at President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural parade, organizers said.
Talladega College's band will march at Trump's inauguration as other historically black schools such as Howard University, which performed at President Barack Obama's first inaugural parade, said they won't be marching in the Jan. 20 event.
"We were a bit horrified to hear of the invitation," said Shirley Ferrill of Fairfield, Alabama, a member of Talladega's Class of 1974.
"I don't want my alma mater to give the appearance of supporting him," Ferrill said of Trump on Monday. "Ignore, decline or whatever, but please don't send our band out in our name to do that."
The move has lit up Talladega College's social media sites with a sharp debate about the band's decision to participate in the parade. Some people voiced strong opposition, while others support the band's participation.
"After how black people were treated at Trump's rallies, you're going to go and shuck and jive down Pennsylvania Avenue? For what?" Seinya SamForay said in an interview. "What they did is a slap in the face to other black universities."

It's a verbatim copy and paste from the website linked in the OP.
And it happens to be the lead story on MSN.com under that exact title, word for word.

It's a click bait MSN title, then. They wrote it like that to get clicks because people will think it's the University of Alabama band when they see the article title - before they open the article.

How were black people treated at Trump's rallies? They were probably high fived by every white person there for not being a sheep.
Let's just make up something to cause more division because black people have to stay strong against evil white folk aka white folk...

Has a degree but isn't smart enough to get out of Fairfield.

Seinya got fooled by Democrat plants.
Nice name.

I am surprised that a HBCU would agree to march in Trump's parade. I'm also spurred that Marist University is going to as well.
I mean can't Bob Jones U, Oral Roberts, Liberty U, BYU, and other similar schools send marching bands.

Some people are smart enough to separate State/University.

Inviting people and organizations of color to your inauguration? Racist.
Not having people and organizations of color at your inauguration? Racist.

I'm willing to admit Trump said some mean things during the campaign, but he never said anything bad about black people, which is why I've always been confused where this hate from him comes from within that community

I bet this marching band has no rhythm.

So you actually advocate for only predominately white school bands to attend yet call Trump racist? Seems you only want to feed your demented beliefs.

I bet Van Jones does a special on how demented this school is for having participated in the event.

My facebook feed had several messages from African American friends who were convinced that Donald Trump was putting them on a boat and sending them to Africa.

Quite well, according to my brother and my dad.
They had more problems with protesters singling them out for being black and supporting Trump
