So is this more for the confidence of incoming QB recruits? Or do we have, again, a legitimate worry that Harris will win the starting role by having Heisman caliber practices although he has shown that his practice ability does not translate to live action?

It should be an open competition. Canada should be able to figure out who he thinks can best score points. That's who the guy should be.

Open for Canada! I would think this years Spring Practice as far as the QB Position is going to be very critical.

BH wont even be on the roster come fall practice.

Don't care what he says now about transferring.

Will be Etling, Scott and Brennan in the Fall.

McMilan might even transfer as well......

LSU can afford to take the competition at least 2 games into the season next year as well.

My money is on Scott impressing in the new offense with all the moving pieces.

Lindsay Scott is not beating a senior Danny Etling.
You should do yourself a favor and give up this narrative.
Save yourself some dissapointment.

You have no evidence to support this. This is not Miles' team anymore. Etling will not simply start because he is a senior. Brand new OC, brand new system, best QB will win the job.

It should be. Etling wasn't lights out and didn't lock up the job my any means imo

Maybe Canada can run an offense tailored for Harris instead of forcing him under center running pro style like cam

To me its simple...new OC and new system.....open competition. I do think Etling will win the job as a senior with 20+ starts but im interested to see if Canada can keep Harris and can develop him.

I think it's a level playing field. Canada probably has an offense in mind and he's going to put the best guy in charge of it. It wouldn't surprise me if Etling and Harris rode the bench next year. It also wouldn't surprise me if Harris took the reins.

Which will be Etling, not Scott. Scott is just the message board savior, like many before him.

Why would anyone not think it is an open competition. We have a new coach.

I support Canada's decision. If he starts a guy, I have to think he believes that guy can beat Bama and the SEC East champ.

Can't wait to see how all the QB's respond knowing there's a chance for any of them despite their class status. The best guy for the job should be on the field.

Even without a new coach, why is QB a sacred cow? Are all other positions open for competition? If so-- QB should be treated no differently.

Yeah, some message board savior. I don't give a frick what his height is listed. Kid can play. It was also said that in that little scrimmage they had in the off week a while back, he had 300+ total yards and 3TD against that vaunted talented freshman LSU defense.

I would hope that there is always open competition at QB. Canada should come in and pick his guy to best fit the offense he wants to run. If it's Etling, then so be it. But it has to be open for now.

The best QB will get the starting nod. It will be more than talent alone. Poise, leadership, being able to read defenses and make good decisions in a split second.

For this reason, Etling should be favored. But don't be surprised if Scott vets well enough to earn significant playing time, either in 4th quarter mop-up or even under a dual QB system.

You think a guy that passed for 1900 yards and 9 TDs separated himself from a QB competition?
