Let me start by saying I don't believe that refs are actively/consciously working against any team.

After this year's Bama vs LSU game I read so many fans saying how the refs actively work against, LSU. To all those who truly believe that please read this article (all the way to the end).

quote:

Some of the study’s conclusions defy more-cynical views. For instance, teams favored by Vegas tended to get significantly more discretionary calls against them than underdogs. Ref-baiters might be distressed to learn that the SEC—winners of eight of the last 10 national titles—appears to have the least biased officials.

Ultimately, I agree that refs should be overseen by an independent national body, but let's not, as LSU fans, keep blaming officiating for poor play calling and coaching.

Do College refs have it in for your team?

Eta: to all those people upset by this post here are other articles about Bama and SEC officiating.

SEC refs favor Alabama?

So what's their excuse for the 3 missed holding calls on Jalen Hurts touchdown run? Was that just bad play calling too? Some of you people are morons

No one thinks they are actually cheating. We just want them to be better. I can consistently see the same missed calls throughout every game I watch. There are holes in the rules of the game that also need to be corrected.

I have wondered if replay of calls in game has impacted how they call a game. If I miss it replay will make it right...on some things, obviously.

Three LSU defenders held on hurts TD run, but nothing to see here. Move along.

Some will want to use this as evidence. It's the missed calls in critical situations like PP7's non-int THAT WAS REVIEWED WITH THE ANNOUNCERS AGREEING IT WAS AN INT. Or the hold on the JJ touchdown with blocks in the back on the same TD play. The non hiding calls that are consistently missed. Some THINK it is acceptable to allow a lineman wrap his arm around while the lineman passes by and it is acceptable to take him down. Saw it SEVERAL TIMES the last game with the Bama. These are the non calls that have fans angry. It's bull shite.

It's pure coincidence that the bad calls always and without exception favor Bama and/or Auburn. Nothing to see here! Move along people.

Funny how quickly people forget.

We had Bama beat in 2014. A minute left near the goaline and Bama players scramble to provoke our players into a penalty. A Bama player literally lifts Vadal Alexander's leg up for him to lose his balance and Vadal pushes on the guy to regain his balance and get him off his leg. Ref calls flag and it backs us up. BAMA wins.

You got the PP interception with 3 feet in bounds and replay. Then this past game, blatant holding on half our defense.

Money is everything. SEC wants the SEC to have to best chance to make playoffs and win natty. Usually the best chance is Bama, and the SEC as a whole (including the officials) will lobby their asses off until it happens.

The correct answer for all of this is Bama's players holds are not called on the same scale as opposing teams. Now, I feel much mo bettuh and will sleep well tonight!

Well maybe but if im working for or against a team im not going to run up the stats. Meaning I would make or "miss" calls at important parts of the game. I dont need to hit your for 10 calls a game to beat you, just gotta call holding on your TD or not call it on my team. Further. Bama is good so there probably isn't a need to assist in many games.

My point is IF this exsists it wouldnt show up in some overt stat line

It's not about too many calls, it's all about timing.

LSU might not get flagged for the entire game, but calling, or not calling a penalty at the right time is where the refs biases have the greatest impact.

A few years ago, I dug through statistics comparing LSU vs Alabama penalties during the 5 year period that Saban was at LSU (Saban vs Shula), and Saban's first 5 years at Alabama (Miles vs Saban). Long story short, LSU was one of the most penalized, and Alabama one of the least penalized in most, if not all, of those 10 years. I did that to see if the low penalties were due to Saban discipline.

I can't say I can point to a game where LSU definitely would have beat Alabama if not for bad calls, but it's kind of interesting anyway. I think there is some proximity influence, even if subconscious.
