That's the problem.
Good AD's don't have coaches "forced" on them. Good AD's are in control of things within their job description.
A good AD would have had Dale Brown and Collis Temple come to him and make demands, and he would have calmly said "Fellas, I'm gonna hire a coach so good you won't be able to help yourselves you'll be so happy, and he's going to win at a level that makes us all proud to be Tigers.
"But that coach is going to have a resume a lot better than Johnny Jones' is. I thank you for your input, but I'm thinking a little bigger. Good day to you."
And if he gets pressure from above, he responds with "You either let me do my job, or I will resign right here and now and you'll have to hire an AD as well as a hoops coach. What's it gonna be?"
That's the kind of man who's worth paying 750K a year to run a $140 million athletic department. What we have is a careerist functionary who's worth paying 75K a year for a job where he doesn't have to make any important decisions.
