Great start. I like where your head is at.

I'm still liking where things are headed. I like how you tied the old with the fairly new.

Immortal, Burzum, and 1st Mayhem album if you want to hear bad arse riffs over and over and like good Norwegian black metal.

But your probably not ready for that yet.

Oh I hope you're not talking to me. Storm of the Lights Bane changed my life. Bands like Beherit, Emperor, darkthrone..I could go on and on.

The Pink Floyd song "Fearless" is one of their lesser known and the riff is very catchy.

What I would encourage you to do is listen to particular players - I'm going to toss out some names:

Lindsay Buckingham (yes, well known, but listen to the Buckingham Nicks record, as well as his solo work - there is nobody who plays like Lindsay - self-taught, by the way - very unique) - not a heavier genre like the guys you cited.

Richie Blackmore - you get beyond the Deep Purple hits (like Smoke on the Water, which almost anyone can play) and dig into some of their more esoteric songs, as well as his work with Rainbow - Blackmore is arguably the best minor key lead guitarist in rock history.

Eric Johnson (along with Roy Buchanan) one of the best guitarists you never heard of.

Steve Clark and Pete Willis - the twin leads of Def Leppard prior to their monster Pyromania album - in particular High 'n Dry is one of the greatest heavy metal albums that metal snobs dismiss.

Keep in mind that Sabbath hit during the psychedelic era - and it was a happy accident (literally) as Iommi had to tune the guitar a whole step down in order to be able to play with the metal caps on his fingers - that added "darkness" by the drop tuning is probably that intangible element that thrust Sabbath into public consciousness - there were exactly zero heavy acts that followed them (to this day) who were not heavily influenced by Sabbath.

But, Tool, from a musical standpoint is as influenced by Pink Floyd and Zeppelin, as they are by Sabbath - I often call them genre defying because of this - they're a throwback to the progressive acts, with a decidedly heavy edge - very much as if Sabbath and Pink Floyd had a musical "baby" together, but that baby also listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin.

Then you would love riffs from most of Coroner's albums. Especially this masterpiece from 1991:
Coroner: Mental Vortex

Good luck finding accurate tabs, though. His chord voicings are some next level shite...even today.

Been listening to coroner for years, and that's very underrated thrash album.
