Regardless, it happened.

And no, I wasn't walking around Houma thinking I was going to get murdered, eventually. But I sure as hell got into a metric shite-ton of fights, and oddly enough, I got into NONE since I left.

My work and personal life are insulated - for the most part - from the more base elements of Houma - my home town. I have a business that would make leaving costly, so leaving is not much of an option. Choose your friends wisely, choose your kids friends wisely - true in every town. I'd only move to BR or NOLA - which are not much better in terms of safety.

The homeless and day/night walkers are bad On mlk. We have to be mindful with our girls in the parking lot at work this time of year.

It had seven last year, compared to 164 in New Orleans, 60 in Baton Rouge, 22 in Shreveport, 19 in Lafayette and 18 in Monroe.
Goddamn! Louisiana is a violent state.

good thing cause I was born there and left to go to LSU in 87. 70s-80s Houma wasn't as bad as you portray- unless you were trashy. If so, doesn't matter where you lived, you'd have encountered the same shite in all likelihood.

than maybe you were a trashy MFer and cleaned up once you moved.

Houma wasn't a bad place to grow up/live as a kid/teenager. Lots of hunting & fishing and plenty of nice people and wealthy people.
I will agree by the time you hit 18-20 you need to GTFO an broaden your perspectives. I can see where you'd be screwed if its all you ever knew.

It was pretty decent in the early 80's. Then all the pot heads started stealing everything you didn't have locked down and the section 8 apartments opened all around the same time and lots of lower class folks moved in. Around the late 90's there was quite a bit of drugs going through there. Its gotten to be a lot of old people there now, so it has quieted down quite a bit. I ride through there once or twice a year to check it out.

Houma isn't that bad but it is a bit of a dead end town for the young generations.

Houma and Terrebonne in general started really going to shite when they consolidated the government.

back in the ay it was separated into wards. whichever ward made the money, kept the money.
now it all goes into one pot for the parish to "share".

and by share I mean everyone can drive to MLK are to eat at a shitty chain restaurant. or pass on the new roundabout behind Home Depot.

that's is you're brave enough to go battle the MLK traffic.
place is a 86 car disaster waiting to happen.

I passed by. I've been to this place 100 times. I don't think it's a chevron. Unless I'm talking about a different place. At Lafayette and 311 there is a hadji store which also sells food. I'll give it to them it's a nice place. Only saw one car when I passed. Usually it's pretty packed.
