I lived in Houma for my first 17 years of life, and I thought it was a good place to live back in the 70s and 80s. That is, until I left it.
When I moved away, I realized how isolated, weird, and violent that place was. The town is a dead end. I advise every single young person I know who lives there to get out, and get out fast. My friends who stayed almost all ran into tragedy in some form. Drug addiction, alcoholism, murdered, suicide. Those things happen everywhere, but it seems disproportionate there.
When I left town, a world of opportunities opened up for me. None of that would have been possible for me had I stayed.

Lafayette st. Has always had crime problems. It was that way when I ran a muffler shop back in 1982. Got robbed once...

Make them listen to Houma's own Mike Detillier until they shuffle off their mortal coil?

Looking at the map, isn't this one of the nicer areas of Houma?
It's less that a 1/4 mile from Gordon Doves and Steve Williams house, It's one of the nicer areas of town. Lafayette Street is a straight shot from downtown Houma where the thugs live though.

One of my earliest childhood memories was learning that as soon as you come out the tunnel coming into Houma, you lock the car doors.

its not just the "culcha." its everyone there. go to lunch at hooters or walk on's.....everyone is dressed exactly the same, and all of the trucks in the parking lot are exactly the same. if you choose to dress a little different you're called a 'fig'

300 - 1 odds the shooter is somebody that should already have been locked away for other crime(s)

Murdered? With the entire parish checking in at a high of 7 murders in a year, I am going to call BS
Not saying that you don't know someone who was murdered, but I don't think there's many people here who walk around dreading their inevitable murder

Got me confused with someone else, I can only show up with my dick in a couple fingers, not a whole hand

Houma isn't that bad but it is a bit of a dead end town for the young generations. Nothing here but the oil field, Nicholls, or Fletcher. The need to try and attract some new businesses to the area. Downtown Houma seems to have a bit of gentrification going on which is nice. I never go to the east side for any reason other than dropping food off for work. Also, there are a few neighborhoods that the trash seem to have a hard time penetrating. Luckily, mine is one of them.

its not just the "culcha."
