Go Cougs. St. Jude has always surprised me with how competitive they are despite the school being half the size of St. George and STM.

This is my first time seeing this post and it is fantastic. I would love to know who is writing this. We get to know these kids in spring/summer ball and outside training. I think you got St. George and OLOM spot on. However don't forget OLOM's coach is hall of fame also. He won multiple championships on the high school level and quite a few with OLOM also. SJV got a new guard who excelled in spring ball. With that addition, I think they may be better than ranked. Last year they placed second in the HF tournament. However, there is one big thing holding them back and I understand the ranking. Some of the boys on Aloysius have been working hard in the off season. They have a kid that can shoot threes like Curry and a capable big man on the inside. They deserve their high ranking even #3 in my book. I don't understand the St. Jude ranking. I understand they were good in sixth grade and they have some players back. However, I don't see any of their kids in spring ball and I believe they will again be toward the bottom (I love their team and their parish not a slam). This will be another fun year. I am already looking forward to the next two years after this one as they already have a strong AAU presence in the sixth and seventh grade!

Maybe they would get monstered against the two teams listed. However, STG and OLOM played for the championship in the U-High tournament that had many public schools represented. Those two you mentioned are Basketball factories. Many of the kids on STG and OLOM played AAU with these kids and they held their own.

One more thing. I watched STM play SAS last night. Neither team belong on your list!

About 18-20 each year.

In 8th grade there are 15 or so competing to be the 3rd best team. There is one dominant team, one good well coached team and then there are the others.

you mentioned the st. george vs st. theresa game in the big 10 tournament last year as one of the greatest games ever which is correct. St Theresa was on no ones list of good games last year and they had the best team in the CSAL last year if not for horrible officiating taking two of their best players out of that game. St. Theresa had beaten SAS every time they played them so in my opinion St. Theresa was gonna be the champion of the Big 10 tournament.

is the 82-0 a three year "middle school" record? or just an 8th grade record?

the HF tournament.
The Dustin Bergeron memorial tournament was always an excellent early season barometer when I was playing.
We had some wars with those St George teams when I was in 5th & 6th grade (1995 & 1996)
In fact, we beat them in 5th grade in the DBM tournament finals. Teammate knocked down a couple of clutch free throws to secure the victory. That was the last time we beat them. (that would be the 1998 SGS 8th grade team.)

82-0 is a three year record. Play about 25 games a season then championship tourney following. CSAL hoops was some of the most fun I've ever had playing sports

If you are going to talk about all time great CSAL Teams you may want to add the 1988 CHS team to that conversation.

SGS has some really athletic kids and it shows on the basketball court.
Was discussing the "why" of this the other day with another parent. Noted that the geography of the SGS parish is conducive to year-round swimming (Crawfish) and year-round soccer (Burbank/BRSC), which makes it easy for these kids to basically be in some sort of athletic training or conditioning year-round. Saw some of the jamboree games and the SGS kids can run up and down the court like machines and never get winded. The only "reason" I can come up with for some of the dominance (cause they usually don't have great size).
Thoughts?

This is just a really good year for SGS and a REALLY bad year for the other catholic Schools.

I believe I read about this team in Bear Facts recently.

SAS defeated St Jude in the jamboree last night. Was a scrappy game but a lot of fun. Saint Jude has a couple of monsters on their team.
