40 - 45 in his career with one 8-win and one 10-win season. Lost his only bowl.

What is it with AD's making hires at 5AM this year?

I see some writers who likes the hire, but it sure seemed like a strange hiring process for Oregon.

It started with Fleck being reportedly being a favorite, then not getting interviewed at all.

Then, Chip had the contract papers drawn up, but backed out at the last minute.

Dan Mullen's name popped up briefly, but didn't gain much traction.

Next, they reportedly lose Matt Rhule to Baylor, which isn't a good look, if true.

Then Chip re-enters the picture, with many "insiders" claiming it was done, and would be announced today.

We wake up today, and Willie Taggert is the coach. Maybe he will turn out to be a good hire, but to the outside it seems like a poorly executed coaching search.

Wasn't he the one that broke the Herman to LSU story on Thanksgiving night?

(1) I do think it is fair to question how Willie Taggart will adjust to the west coast as a head coach. Outside of a couple years as RB coach in Palo Alto, Taggart has spent his entire coaching/playing career in Florida and Kentucky.

(2) Western Kentucky was miserable in their first couple years in the Sun Belt. Taggart came in and completely turned that program around in two years.

(3) South Florida hit rock-bottom under Skip Holtz. In comes Taggart and, again, turns that program around in a span of a couple years.

(4) His offense fits Oregon's athletes.

On the surface, this is a solid hire.

I think this is a very good hire. Taggart helped to build WKU's FBS program into the consistent winner it is today and brought USF back to respectability and 10 wins. He's been an assistant on the west coast as well, so he's familiar with California for recruiting purposes.

This is no affirmative action hire. Taggart is a solid coach.

Smart hire For Oregon . I thought he was one of the top coaches not at a good power 5 program . Sucks for USF but if they could get Strong or Kiffin they should be able to keep improving. Both of those coaches would do a good job recruiting at USF.
