He was overrated.
If anything he's underrated, most people have him near the bottom of their all-time top 10 lists. A very easy argument can be made that he's in the top 5 ever.
Dude was GREAT in every phase of the game. I'm not sure anyone has ever combined as versatile an offensive and defensive skill set into one player. Imagine combining the offensive game of Dirk Nowitzki with the defense of Draymond Green and then making him a better passer than both. That was Larry Bird.

Larry Bird was really freaking good. Just an all out winner and definitely a top 10 player of all time. Wish his back would have held up a little bit longer.

I don't think people realize how great of a shooter Bird was. He might have the best mid-range game of all time.

It has been painful realizing that over the years.
Good to see you don't restrict your dumbassness to just the poli talk board.

Just chiming in to say there are a lot of people in this thread saying Bird is over-rated and /or only a top 15 player.
Please list 10-14 Players better than Bird so that I can get some solid laughs. Thanks!
I'll throw this out there again because it needs to be burned into people's minds who think he is over rated. Dude is probably the best or second best player to ever play for the Boston Celtics. THE most successful, storied franchise in league history. The dude is probably better than Russell, but there is no wrong pick there. It's him and Bill Russell at the top of the most successful franchise of all time in the league. If anyone really believes he's not a top 5 all time player, you need to get yourself into rehab.

top 5 is very debatable.

I think that's all that gets talked about by the younger generation, his shooting and 3 point contests as if Bird was just some long-range statue 3 point shooter.
Bird only took 1.9 three's a game over his career. 1.9!
He didn't even believe in the 3 point rule and thought all buckets no matter from where should be worth 2 like he had in college.
Bird scored with mid-range jumpers, low-post ups, layups, put backs, left handed hooks, long range, fade aways, any way he could.
Bird was almost as good a passer as Magic..."there are no second's when it comes to voting for the all-time best passing forward, there are only others receiving votes."
Bird got tons of points and put backs under the boards because he was a great rebounder who got down and dirty with centers, had eyes in the back of his head and could run the floor.
Bird had several top 10-ranked rebounding seasons, and grabbed more defensive rebounds than any forward in the 1980's. In 31 Finals contests where the competition was at its peak, Bird pulled down 361 rebounds, or 11.64 per game.
From 1981-87 Bird finished first or second in the MVP voting each year, and is still the only non-center to win three MVP awards in a row.

Larry Bird Ultimate Mixtape!
I miss watching him in his prime. Some of those passes and trash talking stories are great!

I need to hear this. Please explain.
I would have told you that he's top 10 all time and that's Lebron passed him only a few years ago in the small forward position, but his career is considerably shorter than the other all-time greats, and he's #27 in win shares. His career is vastly overrated. LINK

He played for the most successful, and most storied franchise in the history of the NBA. The great players they've had, and many of whom are in the HOF, he is probaby #1 or #2 on that list depending on whether or not you think he's better than Bill Russell.
Yeah he's overrated as frick.

top five all time...
Great player. Best in the NBA three years straight. Clutch as shite.
But there are at least 20 careers that were better than his, and the numbers support this position. He is overrated.
