Both are guys you look at and think physically they shouldn't be able to do what they are doing against the guys they are doing it against, but they both do it time and again.

and you know they are going to do it, in Birds case, he'd tell you. And there is nothing you can do to stop it.

Too young to have watched him, but I have watched several of his game on youtube/nba classics, etc, w watched his highlights. The guy was phenomenal. AND, he had the clutch gene. Would let you know he was about to drain a game winner on you, and then do it.

He's top 10 to me. Game on the line, he's right there with MJ.

He's only 60?

He was just a few years past playing age when Space Jam came out? I thought he was in his 50s then.

Dude was tough.

Everyone remembers the back, but he also played with heel spurs and go watch the youtube video where his head bounces off the court like a melon against the pacers in the playoffs. And he came back in that game to play.

I would like to see a guy like Bird in todays NBA. A guy who everyone knows is not the greatest athlete, but is clearly head and shoulders better than everyone else. You know it, the other team knows it, and there is nothing you can do to stop him. Bird was slow, couldn't jump all that high, but had every other possible intangible you would want in a basketball player. Plus he was probably one of the top 5 shite talkers in the history of the league.

He's like Kevin Love, except a much better shooter, passer, rebounder(may be a push), with better basketball instincts. He could absolutely play in today's NBA. And he would be great. And I'm a Magic guy.

Soooo he's not like Kevin Love other than both being a white forward?

A great comp with Duncan.

That said, people forget that Bird pretty much mauled the pinky finger on his shooting hand before he even played a minute in the NBA. He hurt it playing softball, and hid it from the Celtics until his physical in training camp.

Bird at 60 can probably still out shoot 75% of NBA players. There are very few pure shooters ala Steph, Clay, Durant, etc. Today's game is made for slashers and fast break action. Imagine today's players in a slow down half court offense like he played in. Most would not be very good. Bird was Dirk before Dirk. How atheletic is Dirk Nowitski? So I guess he cant play either. Tall slow white guy.....

Just chiming in to say there are a lot of people in this thread saying Bird is over-rated and /or only a top 15 player.

Please list 10-14 Players better than Bird so that I can get some solid laughs. Thanks!
