Man the father will never forgive himself. I still don't understand how he didn't find a way to make it back for them, no matter what police officers were telling him. They didn't even have a vehicle.

No kidding. I may die trying but I would have blown right by the cop to get my wife and daughters. I would have dropped my son off by the cop and blown by.
I would also like to know the time line. He spoke to his wife at 8:30 and the home across the street was on fire. Did he make it back at 8:35 or 9:15? This would play a huge role in my decision.

They would have had to shoot me dead. I can't even imagine.

What a horrible and tragic end to this story. I don't know how I could live on after something like that.

that's horrible.
I couldn't imagine.

I would never separate my family in a situation like this. I feel deeply for the man but I don't understand his decision making.

I wonder if he is able to sue the PD for preventing him from going. It wasn't a crime scene, so could they legally hold him from attempting to rescue his family? I am completely retarded to the legality of natural disasters because I have been fortunate enough to never experience one, so forgive me if my post comes off as completely stupid.

God damnit. I was really hoping for a positive end to this story.

This could be the worst news I have read in a long time. I can't imagine what the dad feels like.

man, this is fricking terrible...I was wondering whether they had been any developments on this story.

He still has his son. As terrible as this is, he has to find peace and prepare for life with his son.

Unless he could walk through 1200 degree fire, he wasn't making it to them.

They would have had to shoot me in the back as I tried to get back to my house to get to my wife and daughter. No way would I have stopped at that checkpoint heading back to my house to get my family.

Exactly, why not take the whole family with him?
Prayers sent to the family.

Seriously, this is heartbreaking to read. I can't even begin to understand how this guy must feel and how much pain he is feeling. These fires are really doing damage,

Yes. That's what a fire does Chris

Very very sad, but there's more to the story. First off, you don't drive into traffic and past a police road block and not know what's going on. I'm sorry but his story about 'looking for the fire" is BS. I'm not saying he did anything wrong, but he went to town or to do something with his son when he knew there was an evacuation and it turned out tragic. Very sad for him no doubt.
