i'm saying we have a limited number of coaching slots and can't afford to use one on Jenkins, esp when we have a DL coach in our HC
Wait are you actually saying O should coach the DLine?

Dick LeBeau is 78. Still going strong.

If O is already a dline coach then having a guy like Jenkins can't hurt.
are you familiar with the concept of redundancy?

yes
what the frick else is he doing if his OC and DC are running the show?
media obligations and TAF functions only take up so much time

not a human being. also doesnt have to recruit.

he wouldn't recruit, either

Peveto was only let go to appease the masses. He still has use as a recruiter or director of player personnel. O is going to keep/hire all of his best buddies.

Wow. I thought better of you than that.
O runs the entire practice. Can't do that when focusing all your time at one position. Also during a game you need a dedicated coach to scheme with the players and decide on substitutions.
You really think it's in our best interest for O to divide his time up that way?
Posted on 11/27/16 at 12:28 pm to Mickey Goldmill
You realize there are tons of head coaches that coach a position? Right?

he has ceded power to his coordinators. that is his master plan

how has Saban continued to coach DBs all these years? Jimbo and QBs? etc

again, O is ceding this power

our OC and DC are being sold as autonomous units who are basically head coaches of their fiefdom
what is O going to contribute, exactly?

hell some are full blown coordinators and playcallers on gamedays

I'm fully aware. I'm speaking specifically to Ed Orgeron. I'm especially surprised to hear the anti-O people advocating this. If you have such a low opinion of him, why do you think he can juggle these duties?

he said yesterday he's keeping Jenkins on staff
not a good sign
I actually don't think that is that big of a deal, other than possibly a missed opportunity for a recruiter.
But doesn't that speak volumes for how important a DL coach is?

i don't think he has much else to do
he will have little, if any input on offense or defense. the coordingators are going to scheme, create the gameplans, run practices, and run the respective shows on gamedays (which is probably a good thing b/c of who O is)
what else is there for him to do?

i think it's more of a comfort thing for O
Jenkins is his BDP
*ETA: except its bizarro. BDP could recruit and couldn't coach. Jenkins can coach and not recruit

Well, he needs to contribute something besides recruitersnd media speaker
Posted on 11/27/16 at 12:35 pm to josh336
And he actually is a solid d line coach

psst...Saban has a DB coach...

To be honest I would rather have spend a minimal amount of time overseeing Aranda and [Hopefully Great OC here]. DL coach is something we can afford to have him spending time on.
Yes he has duties to oversee the whole team, but other coaches do this position/HC split. If O is really serious about letting his coordinators run the show then he better be doing something more to earn that 3.5 million.
