GNR would have been better with a different singer. Rose proved that just because you can hit all of the notes, you're still not a pleasing singer if your voice is GRATING AS shite.
Wut? Axl's rasp is a huge part of what makes G&R. Could you imagine Welcome to the Jungle without it? No. Plus, Axl wrote the majority of the lyrics with few exceptions.

He would have continued to make crappy music and their success would not have been sustainable due to their fanbase growing up and actually getting jobs

Jerry Cantrell is a talented dude. Their unplugged album was the best one to come out of the Unplugged series even though the one for Nirvana is better known.
I wore out the unplugged tape I had of Alice in Chains. It was just awesome and definitely top 3 unplugged performance for me (Clapton's was damn good too along with Nirvana).
I know Courtney Love said for a long time that Grohl stole a lot of the music for the Foo Fighters from Cobain. So if he was still alive, there is a chance he would have been attached to that music/movement. But the Foo Fighters always seemed more fun and light hearted to have evolved from Nirvana's music, so I'm not sure I believe that.
I read this great article awhile back where it compared the great grunge singers (Cobain, Vedder, Staley/Cantrell and Cornell) to the singers of the British Invasion groups (Lennon/McCartney, Jagger, Daltery and Plant). Lots of interesting parallels. I was always really partial to Staley though and his story is way more tragic than Cobain's, plus he was more talented.. such a waste..

Grohl would have sang more or he would have left the band.

They wouldn't have the credit they do now. He wasn't some lyrical genius or anything.
