Personally I've just had a sense of something "not smelling right" throughout the last few days, and that includes the entire Herman storyline. (As well as mentions of Holgorsen and Fisher-LSU negotiations ending also being things that didn't pass the smell test to me)

To be honest, I agree -- some shadiness is afoot.

But, as a fan of the Raiders, I've studied more coaching searches than almost any other football fan would have. The "Herman to Texas" stuff sounds like hedging, IMO. 9/10 when this kind of news breaks, it indicates the end game of a coaching search.

I don't claim to be an insider or anything like that. I also felt like there was a ton of nonsense flowing over the past few days.

Let's just hope that we get one of our guys, and I am very very confident we will. And if for some reason we don't then life and LSU football certainly goes on and we might very well be back here again in 3-5 years doing this all over again.

I'd be fine with someone like Mike Gundy, as well. There are a number of other coaches I'd be comfortable with.

CEO isn't one of them, though...

We've been in enough threads together for u to know who I think it is..., BUT, if it's not that one, I totally agree that Orgeron would be a huge disappointment and embarrassment. All Herman/Fisher talk aside, I truly believe Orgeron has never been a "true" feasible candidate for this job...it was all about sticking to the promise of Giving him a fair shot in the process and I think it also provided a nice degree of leverage as well for LSU in dealing with any coach vying for this job. It also gave the fans and team a new-found energy and motivation which helped the season from going completely south and becoming a dumpster fire.

As for Gundy, he's at the top for me, right behind Jimbo and Herman. He is an excellent coach and a winner. He's won big at OSU, which is a very difficult place to do well at. Give him the resources of an LSU or Bama or Texas and he'd be Top5 coach IMO.

Fedora never resonated well with me, neither did Holgorsen. Seems like too big a change when also taking into account their inevitable "learning curve" and personalities that aren't going to jive here.

After Fisher/Herman/Gundy, I certainly like (in no particular order):
-Fuente (unlikely after 1 year)
-Aranda
-Dantonio (although probably unrealistic given age and philosophy)
-PJ Fleck (really like him, he screams winner to me)

And of course I love the A-Listers that aren't at all possible or realistic (Saban Meyer Harbaugh Peterson Stoops Dabo)
