I want to buy a tube amp. Or a bright solid. What's the best economical option?

I need a bright amp. And Id like a tube, but I'd even consider just a brighter sounding Solid state.

I have a Crate 65gtr and its just too fricking low and sad. I cannot get a bright tone out of that thing to save my life.

Can I get one for less than $500 that's worth a shite?

I'm not going to spend a grand on a Marshall stack as much as I want to.

Any thoughts?

the douchey guy in every "Norm's Rare Guitars" video is has everything running through a "hot rod deville"? Thought I saw one for about $500?

Might have been used and beat to shite though?

I really want to hijack this thread and ask about digitals?

But I will just sit in the corner and see what happens.

If you're looking for versatile and economical options that sound good, try out some of the hybrid amps that have solid state electronics/models with a tube-power section.

Vox makes good ones among others.

If you're willing to part with $600 and up, start looking on craigslist. I got a well cared for Mesa for $900 and there are probably still better deals out there.

Great sounding amp. The blues Jr is great as well. For its size it has a lot of power

Here you go! All you'll need, my workhorse.

Oh you said less than $500? Whoops

I have a Peavey Delta Blues that I play on the side when all that gain isn't necessary. I absolutely love it. Very comparable to a twin reverb in everything except price.

Man,I just play electric at home anymore, got an old Crate 18 tube that works perfect for me.

I also have one of the Fender mustangs, with all the different sounds, and can download others to it,but I'm not smart enough to make it work for me.

Got excited about talking with you about this till I read that.

I recently started using a Randall Satan. Waiting on my new cab to get in. Orange ppc412. Going to throw that on there. Have a mesa triple rectifier on a bogner uberkab that I've been recording/touring with.

If I were you I'd save about $100-$200 more and find a good used peavey 5150 or 5150II on eBay/reverb. Tried and true amps that Eddie Van Halen made known. Also have been used in a lot of other technical metal music, impressive bright gain.

Eta

That's just for the head. I'm sorry, I'm a little high right now.

If you're looking for a combo? That's a whole new ballgame. Look to buy used though, from a reputable seller.

Eta 2: Edit Lives.

Dude..save up though and get a stack. frick a Marshall for the most part btw, that's an expensive piece of white plastic. Unless it's a 2203. Those are legit. But yeah, you could get a upper mid range head on 4 12s, as long as they're real celestion vintage 30s..its so worth it.

Yeah I will certainly have a nice tube stack one day but I can't spend that money right now. Baby Breesus comes in 2 months.

I had an eggnater tourmaster 4212 that i liked but I had to sell it. And I just cannot go back to this crate. It sounds like I'm drowning everything I play.

I need a brighter amp than my crate. Some thing that can run a clean channel. It is just always heavy and low and droning.

Yeah, that makes a difference, priorities are in the right place. congrats on that.

Never have been a fan of crate, what kind of music do you enjoy playing the most? I think that would help, I forget most people don't play black/death metal.

What do you need the amp for? Any gigging at all or just jamming at the house? If just jamming at the house, you dont neee much wattage at all. Also what style or music are you after and do you have anything invested in pedals? This is way too broad of a question really to recommend anything. Just throwing a few cheap options out there low wattage and in your price range, I would look at the Marshall DSL5C or the Slash Combo model, Blackstar HT5c, Fender Pro Junior (not versatile, great pedal platform), Fender Bassbreaker 007 (absolutely incredible). What exactly do you mean by a bright tone? I can make a rather boomy and low mids type amp like a Mesa Rec sound bright as hell by shaping the EQ. I would look into all of the Peavey Micro heads as well as Orange Tiny Terrors.

I was going to suggest a USED Mesa Boogie Express 525. Or 550 express plus. Sometimes you can find a good ebay/reverb/etc deal for $500-$700.

Combo with a 12", legit clean channel. Ideal for personal/home use.
