We rented some of the cabins at the state park for next week, Heard a rumor the lake was drained earlier this fall. Anyone have any info in this?

Lowered water level to control the grass.
It should fill up again after some good rain

Far as I can recall, all the boat launches are closed. Water is too low.
And yes, they did drain the lake in an attempt to kill some of the aquatics that are taking over out there.

No they just lower it. Water is still in the channels
Vernon lake in Leesville is the same. Went out there last week and it's bone dry except the channel. Pretty cool to walk out there and look at all the structure can sometimes find arrowheads out there
Found a cypress stump with a piece of aluminum propellor in it!

Regardless, Chicot Lake is closed to all boating activity.

It is dry as s bone, except for some of the deeper channels on the East end-DRY. Buddy of mine is a ranger there & he sent me pics, I don't know how to post pics but I can email them to you if you want to see what it looks like. It's gonna take a LOT of rain to fill it back up.

If you get a chance take a walk out there. Amazing to see what a cypress looks like under the water. The big ones will have that buttress right at the water line and underneath some of the trunks are just a straight pole under there. Lots of area under that tree for a fish to hide

Net sales are up in Ville Platte. All kidding aside, that lake never had these problems until they built the current dam. The old dam was roughly 2 feet higher. My dad fished that lake during its hay day, and they went to meetings arguing that the new dam was too low. Then, while building the new dam, willow trees grew up all over the lake, they then sprayed to kill the willows, but fricked up a ton of the old cypress trees.

I think they are trying to control the hyacinth out there. Don't know for they have salvinia or not but that's the worst weed around. Provides nothing for fish

It is open to boat traffic went today. The lake is about 3.5 to 4 feet low but it is open

There are little to no fish there.
