Pet Rabbits

4 year old daughter has her heart set on a rabbit for Christmas. I'm not real enthused about the idea but if it can stay outside in our detached garage, no heat, I'll consider it.
My parents had one that they kept outside though that froze when it got really cold one night. Is this pretty easy to prevent?
Are they generally pretty easy to care for?

No matter what kind of pet you buy for a 4 year old, you'll be the one taking care of it.

Rabbits can be trained to use a litter box and they don't make noise. They also won't live 15 - 20 years. They are cheap pets, food wise too.

I raise rabbits, primarily to eat though. Rabbits do well in the cold. On the very cold nights, make sure they're not in direct wind and place a heat lamp in the cage.
Very easy to take care of.... Pellets, alfalfa, water... they love carrots, celery, fresh parsley, and fresh cilantro.
Use a wire cage, so the shite can fall through. Start a little compost pile somewhere to dump the shite every few days, or just throw it in the ditch.
And yeah, you will be the one taking care of the rabbit. Get one as young as possible or one that has been played with a lot already, otherwise the rabbit will never make a very good pet.

Now is a good time to get one. If you plump them up quick they can be ready to serve for Easter.

We had pet rabbits as kids, but raised them as food.
Just get her a little female black lab, and you'll have a great family pet. that dog will sleep at her bed side ad you will sleep like the dead.

My kids have one and it craps in a litterbox. I dump the litterbox 3 times/wk because of the strong, foul smelling urine, but at least it's easy to clean. Oh, and they do molt, a lot.

They chew a lot, so keep that in mind if you let them out of the cage for a while. Also, they generally do not like to be held/petted.

Exactly, that's the whole gist of my post.

Yes. My BIL and his wife have one. It is kind of a pain to house break a rabbit, but they are pretty low maintenance.

Try to get one from a local rabbit rescue. They are already litter trained. They are one of the most dumped pets after Easter. Sad.
There's heated houses for outdoor dogs/cats but I would just bring it inside when weather is bad. They seem pretty clean (other than eating in their litter box).

Had one as a kid. Every time I took it out of the cage it would scratch the hell out of me.
Interesting fact - rabbits will cannibalize their babies. :
