re: Would losing a game be better long term?

He took advantage of an opportunity. After that Auburn loss, he had leverage to do what was necessary.
Alleva needed no leverage and definitely did not need to give any interim coach any kind of leverage, which O will have if he goes 5-1.. he is the AD, he can hire and fire.... Miles would have either righted the ship (like O) or would have continued the path to get fired, which was most likely

It also gives us time to get ahead of other teams in negotiations that are also in the hunt for coaches after the year.
There were no real negotiations that happened in Sept or Oct that could not have just happened in November.. no big time target is going to commit without knowing what else is out there first.

I just hope Joe Alleva has enough balls to demote O and hire Jimbo, win or lose.
And I hope O has the professionalism to not take it personally and stays on.

how much better this team looks since he took over.
I agree, the team looks better when we're not playing great defenses. But to insinuate that we won't be good without Coach O is a stretch. Would be great if we could keep him on staff but it won't be the end of the world if he leaves.

Tell me about all the championships we've won with Coach O and how we can't do it without him.
How many games have we won this year with anyone other than Miles or Coach O.
And how many offensive records have been set this year by anyone other than Coach O? Many of them 40 to 60 year old records.
Jimbo Fisher has lost 3 games this year. None of them were to Alabama.

On point as usual.
I can't imagine how LSU would look today if we didn't fire Les - I think it was becoming so stagnant and suffocating.
Opening it up and letting everyone know we were in search of new coach was also a positive.

But there's definitely a legitimate argument for enduring short-term pain for long-term gain.
Where did you stand on the long term pain inflicted by Miles?

see what you're saying OP. I just hope Joe Alleva has enough balls to demote O and hire Jimbo, win or lose.
Seems like that is what's happening. Make it to sugar bowl, get demoted.

I'd be willing to wager that LSU would only have one loss if O had been the coach from the first game. We would lost to neither Wisconsin nor Auburn. Both of those losses were on Les.

Orgeron is not going to be at LSU next year if he doesn't get the job. His agent will turn this stint plus what he did at USC into a head job elsewhere

As is the case with about 85% of the LSU "fans" posters on the Rant just to get the coach they want
All too many LSU "fans" are very willing to put their personal feelings above LSU. They are fans only so long as things are going their way.

How about we win out and bring in Jimbo. Then Jimbo offers O as asst. head coach/recruiting coordinator @$2 million per yeay

Never good to lose. Ever!

I wanted Miles gone a couple years ago, when it was clear we were in decline.
But he was winning enough to stay employed. So we stagnated for 4+ years, all with elite recruiting classes.

Simple-minded thinking. Of course a loss can be good for the long-term health of a program.

Had that discussion with a coworker this morning. I think Alleva has the cojones to hire Jimbo if he's interested above O even if he (O) wins out.

Hell to the absolute frick NO!!!!!!! what kind of scenario is this????

Obviously this is what would be ideal. I'm just worried about losing O to another school like Alabama or somewhere that he could hurt us in recruiting.
Didn't mean to piss people off with the post, I feel like LSU is in bad situation with O if they win out.

There are quite a few with that thought process on this board. There were even more the days after the wisky game that hoped LSU would lose so Alleva would hurry up and fire Miles. It is truly amazing that some LSU fans think losing would be the best option.

I get it. I do. As a AD though you can't let your fear if Bama hiring him control what's best long term HC job. I don't think O Would be any more of a threat than Burns or Dunbar at Bama. I honestly don't think he's that influential.
Bama is going to get theirs regardless. O won't enhance that imo.
