Would losing a game be better long term?

Just hear me out...
If we go undefeated rest of the way and get invited to Sugar Bowl and win that game, then you are looking at a top-10 finish for LSU. In addition, Coach O has come in and only lost to Alabama and played toe-to-toe with them for three quarters. If Jimbo is hired after he did that, he will be pissed off...and may leave. If he loses to A&M then we end up likely in a pretty good bowl game. In this scenario, the administration has easier conversation with Orgeron about bringing in Fisher and he agrees to stay on staff as recruiting coordinator.
Maybe I'm wrong in thinking he will be pissed if he doesn't get the job...

AS FANS WHY WOULD WE WANT TO LOSE A FRICKIN GAME?

Making excuses for losing?

NO!!! Win out, go to the Sugar Bowl, and beat up on Oklahoma or whoever else we play. Fournette and the returning Seniors deserve to finish out their LSU career this way

I see what you're saying OP. I just hope Joe Alleva has enough balls to demote O and hire Jimbo, win or lose.

Easy formula. Win out, keep Coach O.

Jesus Christ. Are you serious? You would seriously want LSU to lose a game for any reason?

Hate to resort to name calling-- but only a loser would ever consider losing an acceptable alternative. C'mon-- you're better than that!!!

Honestly, Alleva botched it just as much this year as last.. NOoreason to fire Miles that early in the season and have O try to lay claim to the job. It was not like they could conduct a coaching search in Sept or Oct, all the candidates are busy. Should have left Miles in place until at least after AL (maybe fire Cameron early on, if you want to appease fans), then had a clean coaching search without O in the way. How could Alleva not see this was going to happen with O, the exact thing happened at USC. I like O and want to keep him, just not as the HC.

Tell me about all the championships we've won with Coach O and how we can't do it without him.

Winning and hiring Orgeron would be infinitely worse for our program than losing a game and hiring Jimbo.
I want to win and still hire Jimbo though.

No, but losing "fans" like you would be better in the long term.

Not true.
He took advantage of an opportunity. After that Auburn loss, he had leverage to do what was necessary.
It also gives us time to get ahead of other teams in negotiations that are also in the hunt for coaches after the year.

I'm not saying I agree with the OP - I want us to win out and go to the Sugar Bowl.
But there's definitely a legitimate argument for enduring short-term pain for long-term gain.
Hell, there are plenty of circumstances where a loss would actually benefit a program in the long-term by allowing an administration to clean out the coaching staff and bring in new blood. If a coach keeps winning just enough to keep his job, a program could get stuck in mediocrity - good enough to avoid firing the coach but not good enough to compete for championships.
Nothing wrong with the OP at least acknowledging that fact.

ah, there it is -- the allegation that you're not a true "fan" if you think losing another game (in what is already a 3-loss season) would actually help the program in the long-term.
Maybe the poster is just thinking longer-term than 2016. Maybe he's thinking about the next 10 years, instead of just satisfaction for the next 10 days.
The immaturity on this board never ceases to amaze me.

The way people are acting are just like fried wanting Miles
There's a ceiling with Miles and O
We win enough games on talent but I don't see either beating Alabama and contending
We should win out regardless who the coach is right now

How many championships have we won the last 4 years with a mega talented roster.... ZERO... Miles is gone.. get over it and at least praise coach O for what he has done and how much better this team looks since he took over.
