Why isn't there more criticism of Mexico and other similar countries for not being able to rise above 3rd world status?

I mean Mexico has no excuse. It is only 50 years younger than the US and has a large population, natural resources, tourism, strategic trading partners, NAFTA, open water ports, and the list goes on and on.

Is there a bigger failure of a country, given resources and potential?

Texas was stolen from them, along with NM, AZ, and CA... Otherwise, I am certain they would be at least 2nd world at this point...

So? Get it together. We had our own period of problems with the mafia, etc, and we overcame.

As you said, Mexico has a ton of untapped potential. We should just acquire them, improve their economy, which would correct immigration. Beautiful landscape.

I wondered the same while visting in Sept for wedding anniversary near Playa Del Carmen. Citizens work their arse off and they can't get ahead in life. I asked a taxi driver and he said it's all b/c of corruption.

That's a good question, but it is a continent full of suck. Would Nigeria suck as bad if it was literally connected to France and had a trading agreement with France and the U.K.?

Not the same. Africa is basically hundreds of different little countries, which have different cultures and languages. Mexico is mostly homogeneous, but has bad management. Big brother to the north protects them from invaders, and supports them financially. They don't really have any motivation to progress.

A private equity firm should come in, buy Mexico, rehab it, get its stock price trending upward, and then sell it off for $$$$$

Corruption and the working class being taken advantage of. Cartels are part of it.

There is already quite a bit of private equity activity in Mexico.

Pretty hard to "get it together" when they're the ones who have the money, dictate the flow of trade, and will rape your children and then sever their heads in front of you if you oppose them.

The answer, at this point, is frick Mexico.
