I want to know the best rivalries in the state for high school football. Since I'm biased , Ponchatoula vs Hammond is a heck of game but it hasn't been close as of the past decade. What do y'all think are good rivalries that y'all have enjoyed in the past or today?

Amite vs Independence in the 90's was great, not sure about recent.

STM vs. TCHS is a pretty heated catholic fight in the Lafayette area.

Barbe vs. Sulphur has really heater up in the last decade.

The greatest rivalry in the South and the 3rd or 4th longest in the USA's history is Jesuit & Holy Cross.

Destrehan-Hahnville is a really good one too.

Yea I agree. It used to be more competitive, but always a lot of talent.

It doesn't get a lot of attention statewide because of the decline of the programs, but belle chasse VS port sulphur/south plaq was always a very intense rivalry

The late 90s, early 2000s were phenomenal

I would compare this to a destrehan/hahnville type of rivalry... right next door, everyone in the towns know everyone, etc

West Monroe vs Neville, used to be for a while anyway.

Neville used to beat West Monroe regularly, THE Don came in and turned a door-mat of a program around into a power-house.

Then after the year 2000, Neville dropped down in class and refused to play WM any more.

Two of the top programs in the state with a couple of miles of each other. It is a huge draw, IDK(well I do) why Neville still refuses to play West Monroe.

Two part question:

Was Bastrop good back in the day?

Were they ever rivals with WM/Neville?

Lakeside Camera had a pieced together panoramic shot of a jesuit/hc game from the 40s. Massive crowd.

Slidell and Covington has played more than 70 plus years. Destrehan vs Hahnville usually doesn't disappoint. Jesuit versus Brother Martin has intense support as well.

Before someone says differently, this is the oldest rivalry in the state. This comes up every year.

Didn't Ruston have a huge rival when they had those badass teams in the late 80s?

Neville

Neville and Ruston used to dominate 4A, the highest classification at the time. Ouachita won once in 89. WM was a doormat the entire time they were in 4A. Used to be Neville, Ruston, Ouachita, WM, and Bastrop in District 2-4A/5A. For 29 years in a row I believe, at least 1 of those teams was in the Dome.
