A question for all-do you think LSU can do better than Orgeron?

Simple question. For those against and for O being hired as HC.
Do you think LSU could do better?

I do as well. I also believe many who want Orgeron also think LSU can probably do better, but for some reason, want to do worse and hire Orgeron.
I don't know how you can be an LSU fan and not believe that LSU can do better than promoting the DL coach to HC.

Top recruiting classes coming easily, big budgets awesome traditions. So yes

Absolutely. And hell, maybe O turns out to be a home run hire.
But the fact is that we should be able to find someone with a better track record. LSU does not have to make a risky hire, which is precisely what O is.

Agree. LSU is a top 10 job in America, and surely we can all agree that outside of O, not a single fan in Louisiana would want to promote any other DL coach on the planet as HC of LSU.
LSU can do better than that. I love O and I hope he wins out. But LSU can get a better candidate. I believe that.
Hell, Saban coached at LSU at one point. LSU had tGOAT for a brief period.

It'd be a very risky hire. And a cheap hire. All of a sudden LSU (a top 10 job in football) pays their HC in the bottom tier of the SEC? Dan Mullen would likely make more.
If that's not settling, I don't know what is.

Here in lies the problem:
If LSU publicly pursues Herman, Fisher, or Kelly and all of them turns them down, then the brand takes a hit similarly to what Texas took when they thought they could get anyone in American (including Saban). The media will have a field day with that. We've seen this happen to a lot of big school over the past couple of years. USC, FLA, ND all thought they could real in bigger names than they got.
If LSU don't make the offers public, then they save face somewhat but will take a internal hit from the members of the fan base who assumes LSU can get who they want and but they didn't pursue the big names and emotionally settled for O.
I think at this point the powers to be know who they can really get and is waiting for the season to play out some more before making a move. If O is named before the season ends, then I think LSU Admin was already informed they couldn't get their top targets.

All great points and I agree. Hopefully LSU learned last year not to make these things public. I'd rather the fan base be in an uproar than publicly get shot down by the Jimbos and Hermans of the world.

It all comes down to timing. Sometimes the best job avail may not be avail at the best time for you.

This is about the best time as one could imagine for Herman. His stock is about as high as it can be.
Jimbo renegotiated a couple of years ago, and just lost his top notch DC this past offseason.

I don't get the sense that anyone is against O just because. I think LSU can do better and I think we could do a lot worse. I think the strong "anti O" sentiment is primarily in response to this knee jerk view of many that says let's hire him bc he has the team looking good now. He will get the opportunity to be a legitimate candidate, but I don't think you make that decision right now. To be PC, of course Alleva and the others have to say he is a candidate and support him. They can't say otherwise. I don't understand why so many on here are freaking out and taking that to mean he's the top choice

better coach? yea, probably.
better fit? yes, but that list is much shorter

well to be fair, we have some "insiders" who post updates and they are basically saying O is being highly considered post Ole Miss game.
That scares me.
But we all know how "sources" work.

True. But Herman could also be eyeing Texas.
Jimbo I think is the most realistic hire out there. And I think his offense works at LSU and matches up with the talent in the state. But if FSU beats Clemson then rides momentum to the end of the year? Emotionally it may be a tough time for him to leave.
But lose to Clemson and he could begin packing his office...

I hear you. Do you think it's possible that some of this is to keep the focus off more serious candidates?

O is obviously about as good of a fit, personality-wise, as you could want. I've no issues there. My concern is that he is a DL coach who flopped last time he had a chance to maintain a program.
I'd prefer the HC to be a former coordinator, who in the event shite hits the fan (like losing CHavis) we can expect them to handle things.
O would require top notch coordinators. And those guys hop around and obviously many are candidates for HC positions.
LSU has a chance to really make the next bug hire for the next 10 years. I just hope they aren't as reactionary as some of our shrimp boot wearing fans.

After last year? I'd like to think so! Hopefully many lessons were learned.

This is my only hope and something I hoped the admin would do in the event of a Les Miles firing. I thought, after last year, if the administration wanted to do it right they would misdirect and misdirect again; have everyone thinking one thing, then boom Monday after A&M "[insert elite hire] to LSU."
