You guys are asking the wrong questions.
The only question that should exist is who is the best coach that LSU can get?
Let me fix this for you
Who is the best coach available for LSU ?
Believe it or not, some people never get comfortable in the south, not to mention south Louisiana.

How many coaches win out ?

Honestly, I'm starting to get depressed. After years of knowing good and well LSU was underachieving with that clown Miles, he finally gets canned and I can enjoy LSU football again. Well, that lasted a grand total of 3 games because the reality is, unless LSU starts losing, we're going to get Ed Orgeron. No matter that he has done absolutely nothing to prove he can get the LSU football program back to the level of being a SEC and national championship contender year in and year out. He wins, we're stuck. So as much as I want LSU to stick it to Alabama, I can't really enjoy it because it's basically a death sentence for the program. And for those of you saying, oh just give him a 2-3 year contract to see what he can do. Are you kidding me? With all the arse kissing he's doing and the good ol boy mentality of this state, do you really think it will be easy to get rid of Ed O if he doesn't put the program back on track? It will be 10 times harder to get rid of him, he will be entrenched for years. And guess what, if that does happen, and years from now he finally is gone, do you think LSU will be in the position they are in now, with unlimited potential to hire a great, championship level coach? Hell no, it will be right back to picking from among the scraps, which is what hiring Coach O is. I really can't believe there is not some voice of reason in leadership that can put a stop to this insanity, but it looks like that's not going to happen and LSU is going to take the dive off the cliff

Some people can see past the trees to the forest. The 3 game turn around is more an affect of getting rid of Miles/Cameron. Those two were holding this program back. Coach O has done nothing but politic and let the other assistant coaches try to win him this job. He stands in front of reporters and says whatever he thinks the LSU fans want to hear and you guys have fallen for it.
Who are we bidding against in the Coach O sweepstakes? Is Texas coming to get him? Notre Dame? If the answer is no one, that's pretty telling.

I'm still in denial and thinking alleva has something up his sleeve and is just not letting it leak this year, after the train wreck last season...
But then I realize we're actually going to hire a dude who won 10 games in 3 seasons when he was a head coach.
It's just...it's just so bizarre. He was a punching bag here when he was coaching at ole miss but now he says he learned his lesson and calls someone t-boy and people are literally falling over themselves to install him as the coach here.

Was the gentleman you spoke to wearing shrimp boots?
Like I've said before - LSU could do better than coach O and LSU can do worse than coach O. But if we are basing this off of what he has done so far I think it would be a mistake. Even if he manages to only drop a game or two. That shouldn't be the reason why you hire or don't hire him.
He's not stupid - he just had a chance to sit back and watch all Miles' flaws in coaching and his flaws in relating to the staff and players. Then when he got the chance he hired a campaign manager with all the right connections and did the reverse of everything Miles was doing. And beat 3 shitty teams in the process.
Being a breath of fresh air and energetic doesn't necessarily mean he's the right guy long term for the program.
If LSU makes the wrong move here we will be Texas in 3 years.

Wasn't Charlie strong considered a top up and coming coach when Texas hired him? Same with franklin
Posted on 10/28/16 at 7:24 am to dos crystal
Charlie strong would have worked out most anywhere else tbh. Texas didn't want him and has been trying to sabotage him from the start, which begs the question of why they hired him in the first place.

he is just talking out of his arse. Yes he has made shrewd political moves, which is a good sign. It shows he isn't a clueless retard like Les Miles was.
However to say that is all he has done is stupid. His changes to practice are good for the long term. Id still like an anti O person to tell me what changes so far aren't good for long term success. Its proven USC won with this practices.

"Done nothing but politic...."? A coach can not fool his players, they see right through BS better than any fan or administrator, and at this point they are solidly behind him. They are saying that what he is "doing" is making them better players & are excited bout those changes. This does not win him the job but to say he is doing nothing positive is dumb & dumber. Let's see how the season plays out before screaming one way or the other.

uhhh, you mean the same Les Miles that out smarted the entire administration last year to save his job?
Not saying Miles was always the most intelligent person in the room but he did dumb his way through being the LSU head coach for 11 seasons.
Posted on 10/28/16 at 9:02 am to PennyPacker
It's obvious from the change in the teams attitude and performance that they support O. I think they liked Miles but didn't believe he was putting them in a position to win games. They now know O will do whatever it takes to help them be successful.

quote:again you'll get crickets on this. O has made some fairly significant changes since taking over and they have all worked out. They can't say anything bad about what he has done because so far he has hit every note.

all they can do is discount it by calling him a cheerleader, say he doesn't do anything except take naps, recruit and wear a non-functioning head set on game days. they know it's not correct, they know the Louisiana connection is just an extra thing people like about the hire but they make out like that is the sole reason people haven't written him off.
If/When we beat Bama the contrast in emotions between the Score Board and the Coaching Changes Board will be hilarious. One will be celebrating while the other will be in full melt. Should be fun to watch

I sure didn't want to fire him 5 years ago or 12 years ago when people were calling him the next Larry Coker (program step-dad?). Like it or not he is one of if not the most successful head coach in the history of the school - certainly no worse than second. If you could guarantee me we could hire a coach that would duplicate what miles did record wise for the past 12 years i would hire him right now no questions asked.
I'm not for hiring O right now but i haven't written him off yet either.
I just think pouting through an LSU win and having any part of you that wants to lose to Bama is just an awful way to enjoy LSU football but to each his own.

Coach O doesn't hold the secret formula. It was widely known in coaching circles that Les Miles' practices were not the most efficient. On bowl trips while other teams were having 75 minute practices on site, Les Miles was dragging his Tigers though two hour practices trying to block the same play against 6 different defensive fronts.
Any coach that came in here was going to fix some of these issues. Coach Orgeron just happens to be sitting on the golden ticket and was given a shot to steal the job before a more qualified candidate could be hired.

Wow, big shocker
Say what you want now, but I hope in 3 years, after O has had a chance to ruin the program, you will be man enough to come back and admit you were wrong.
