Wow this movie is amazing. I just caught it on Netflix last night. Fiennez and Turturro are rock solid with a stellar supporting cast. And the story itself is sprawling and tells a short beyond the situation of the narrative and really gives a sweeping snapshot of a tumultuous period in american history- the 60's and the advent of television as well as the introduction of a national "pop culture" disseminated through the boob tube.
Highly recommend to anyone.

Completely underrated.
Possibly the best movie of 94, which is rather impressive.

I think it takes place in the 50's but yes...Love that movie too. It is really well done and a good story filmed well.

"I know you're lying"
"Bluffing, the word is bluffing."
This film made me wonder why Morrow didn't get more roles, he was really good in this. I always watch the credits with Lovette's Mack the Knife and great audience shot.

I saw Quiz Show and Shawshank in '94 as dollar movies at the old Oak Cinema by Jones Creek. Blown away by both of them.
The heartbreak of Van Doren's father shook me to the core.

pretty sure he was a royal a-hole and nobody would work with him

It made me look up Fiennes imdb and I'm shocked to see how weird his filnogrpahy has been. He's been in some stunning gems and total turda on pretty even amounts even though I would have thought this and the English patient would have raised his profile enough to avoids partaking in "The Avengers" (the 90s movie)

Too bad, but he was perfect for this. Hopefully he saved that Northern Exposure skrilla.

You're right on it being set in the fifties, I guess I knew that since TV was still in it's infancy, but it def sets the stage for the turmoil of the sixties exquisitely

Wow I never realized he was in Northern Exposure, grew up watching it with my parents when I was real young

It's held up incredibly well over time. With that it's constantly moved up my list.

Is morrow the subcommittee congressman character? If so I completely agree, dude could literally be any Robert Downey Jr role

I saw it was on Netflix and had to watch it again. Really good, and layered movie.

Great movie. Felt bad how Van Doran was hung out to dry by NBC. That being said, he played his hand wrong . He should of simply taken the 5th on every question like people do now.

it became more than just getting out of it
for a family like the Van Dorens, that kind of shite is important

Mark Van Doren: I'm sorry, Charlie. I'm an old man, it's all a little difficult for me to comprehend!
Charles Van Doren: It's television, Dad. It's... it's just... just television...
Mark Van Doren: You make it sound like you didn't have a choice!
Charles Van Doren: What was I supposed to do at that point, disillusion the whole goddamn country?
Mark Van Doren: Charlie, you took the money!
Charles Van Doren: Yes, yes, I took the money!
Mark Van Doren: Is that what this was about?
Charles Van Doren: No... no, um, I don't know...
Mark Van Doren: It was a goddamn quiz show, Charlie.
Charles Van Doren: An ill-favored thing, sir...
Mark Van Doren: This is not the time to play games!
Charles Van Doren: At mine own, it was mine!
Mark Van Doren: Your name is mine!

Great movie aside from Rob Morrow's absolutely terrible Boston accent.
