Sundays in October, November, and December are beautiful in New Orleans.
Maybe Jimmy Johns could sponsor it.

That would be cool. However; I know that rain or shine, there will be a game played without delay in the dome.

Unless the power goes out, again.

Building a new one is not an option. The Superdome is perfectly located.

Hell to the NO.
That roof makes us LOUD and gives us an advantage.
If you want to see outside football, go watch LSU/Tulane or a high school game.

but putting a retractable roof on a current structure is an option?

From living in Houston, a retractable roof is a complete waste for the 1 or 2 times a year you MIGHT be able to use it. And you sacrifice crowd noise for it.

Only if it retracts like an anus so we can be like Atlanta

Better to sink the money for a retractable roof into upgrades in and around the dome.
Also even the thought of moving the dome would be a disaster for downtown tourism and future consideration for Super Bowls etc.

I think that when the time comes for a new stadium (10ish years), the best course of action will be to demolish the dome, and rebuild in the exact same space. Have the demolition scheduled for February, let the Saints play in Tiger Stadium for a season, and then move back into the new stadium at the Superdome site. Allows the construction 19 months to complete the new stadium, and it still retains the location.

+1
Eventually, this time will come. There are only so many upgrades you can do to the Dome.
The construction and traffic around NO would be an absolute nightmare though, with the way the city is run.

Not a chance! I do agree that it is the best location but they would have to play in Baton Rouge for more than a season. The Falcons new stadium broke ground in March of 2014 and will not be ready to play in until 2017. And they didn't have to demo an entire stadium. The area around the dome doesn't allow much room to begin mobilizing ahead of time and construction is likely to move at a slower pace than it is in Atlanta just due to lack of space.

Good luck convincing the taxpayers in this state as broke as we are that we "need" that

I'm sure we are still a decade away from another dome.
It's location was well conceived. Dave Dixon said years ago that the dome has lasted so long because we hired the best architect in the world to design it. It is miraculous how long it has lasted even with upgrades.

How does this get downvotes? Who in their right mind wants to spend a nice sunday indoors? Nice days usually keep me away from church, much less an saints game.

Thats what the Vikings recently did .
I think they played 2 full seasons at the University of Minnesota's stadium?

Maybe by that time Tulane will be better
The only other area that would work for a stadium would be by the convention center but still near Poydras (there isn't room), or maybe on the other side of the french quarter. I can't imagine Frenchman or the businesses in the area would be too pleased if they ever moved it though
I've been to all the nice stadiums (outside of Minny), and while the Dome isn't near the best, it offers everything that is needed to watch a game. The location alone makes it 100x better than Arlington.
Seattle's was my favorite
