Its been said that Saban "hates to lose, far more than he likes to win.
I play competitive chess, and studies have shown that grandmasters at the very highest levels possess this exact quality. The thought of losing is such an overwhelming and driving force that it contributes more than anything else to their own continual betterment at the game. I guess I don't have enough of that.

Down voted by mistake. I think that it's very intriguing. I watched NS sacking Kiffin out on the sideline. I've heard of this huge ego. This article shows the ability to be humble. Share knowledge. To succeed. Coaching trees sometimes a made of these type chewing outs and lifting up. It be interesting to hear from Herman (and Kiffin), what he's learned from NS.

Texas State (2); uconn(2); Tenn Tech; Tulsa; SMU; Tulane; UCF; Vandy; and Temple. That is 14 of his 19 wins as a head coach. Do some of you truly believe he is ready for the SEC based on this?
Remembered hearing the same shite in the late 90s when we hired that guy from Michigan State who lost to Gerry Dinardo in the Independence Bowl!

Interesting. The ego is certainly there in NS. But so is wisdom and high intelligence. One must think outside of their shell to survive when the enemy has made a new weapon of mass destruction.
LSU needs a legacy coach who can adapt like that without going away from the core principles that got them to where they are. Miles embraced his core principles but could not adapt enough. Some are not capable. And that is what cost him the chance to be a legacy coach who retires on their own free will instead of being forced out.

To my point, I think that any incoming coach could learn from NS (Kiffin and Herman). Do what it takes to win. Find a perfect middle ground btw pro style and spread. Dual threat and pocket passer. I think the wrong approach is to back yourself in a corner as in the links below. With much less experience than Nick Saban, Coach O seems to walkin the door, loudly screaming and declaring we are "Pro Style". If it's me, I'm checking out Bama. I listen to the fans screaming for Herman. And while I'm auditioning as interim for the permanent job, I'm "stealing" something from the guys who are winning now.

Yes, that's why you have so many "grandmaster draws." I assume you're familiar with the term.
For chess at the grandmaster level, "hating to lose" many times does not equate to "striving to win."

BAMA was kicking our azz before they began spreading it out.

you can't tell me that we don't already have one
you can only tell me the CEO is no Coach Herman and no way
Lsu can win out
Coach O could win out and win this job on the field !
Not one thing you can do about it

LSU has a good chance of winning out and if so with the now gauntlet SEC schedule we are facing there is no doubt in my mind LSU would be crazy not to keep the staff in tact. Even 1 more loss even to BAMA would still be a great year considering if Coach O would have been there for the Wisky game and Auburn we would be undefeated at this point
There is no need to get in a bidding war for Herman.
Seems to be good chemistry with the coaching staff and the players right now. I would love to be in the locker room and listen to what the players are saying amongst themselves.
LSU could afford to pay coach less than Herman, give the assistant coaches good raises and stabilize the program.
What ever you guys think I promise you Herman is not a sure thing. We can all watch how it plays out and I am happy as long as we improve next few years and bring back excitement to Tiger stadium

The article was not about us. Talks about Sabans reaction to Ohio State (other programs) closing the gap on him, and his reaction to roster changes.

All good stuff bro! I hope that whoever the next guy is (even Coach O), that is willing to evolve. Football is just like life, it's ever-changing.

Nick is in the running for the best ever college football coach
In a time with ever increasing parity and enormous investment in college football, Saban and Bama have dominated at an historical level.
He's the best recruiter of all time and best program manager, and his Xs and Os are top notch as well.
There's no debate, it just blows that he has reached that level at a school within LSU's division.

Hence the message to any new coach? EVOLVE!!!!! I don't like hearing "spread", "pro style" etc. do what it takes to win. Win you don't have a real track record, be humble enough to look at NS. Learn. Success leaves freaking clues!!!?

And that's why Herman will be moving to Austin later this year.
