Well 95% of Americans don't know how to drive at all so I'm not really worried about this statistic.

The first 2 cars I owned were both manual. However that was back in the day when you could actually work on cars. It took me a long time after I bought a car with an automatic not to stomp for the clutch every time I got in it.

When I was in college I bought a Dakota from Acadiana Dodge but I lived in BR. I wanted the hood repainted because I found some nicks in it and they said it was cool. The salesman met me at 415 and swapped me out with a loaner, a standard 5 speed Dakota. I knew a little bit about them - one of my roommates at the time had a stick Ranger. I learned on the fly over the next week, but worked downtown near government St. I never learned how to balance the clutch on hills though. When I'd catch the light next to that Chevron by the Frosttop on that hill, I'd have to just run it and hope for the best.

I drove one a few years back again for the first time in a decade.

Still got it.
