So much for trading in your copy of Infinite Warfare

If you're buying it simply for COD4 Remastered
quote:
For many longtime Call of Duty fans, the most exciting part about the unveiling of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was that it will be bundled with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. While this undoubtedly gave fans much to cheer for – particularly in the wake of all the Infinite Warfare trailer hate – it appears that not only will the remastered classic be exclusively available as part of Infinite Warfare’s ‘Legacy Edition’, players will seemingly also need the upcoming space shooter’s game disc in order to play Modern Warfare Remastered.
The official Call of Duty website had updated its Modern Warfare Remastered section recently, and it now contains a new line of text that suggests that players will require the Infinite Warfare disc inserted in order to play either game. Specifically, the line in question states that ““Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game download (game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered). Internet connection required.”
Activision also directs players to its FAQ, but at the time of writing, the page does not contain any more details or clarifications about the “game disc must be inserted” part. Of course, for those who are going to buy or have pre-ordered Infinite Warfare digitally, this disc requirement doesn’t apply since there is no disc to worry about.
One possible reason for why Activision has imposed this disc requirement is to avoid people who want to sell their copy of Infinite Warfare but still want to continue to play Modern Warfare Remastered. Given that the publisher deemed Modern Warfare Remastered as its “biggest bonus content” yet as opposed to a new release, and taking into account how the game could potentially draw attention away from the release of Infinite Warfare, it makes sense why Activision would want to keep the remaster as a special exclusive as a opposed to a separate release.
Despite Activision’s assertions that Modern Warfare Remastered won’t be sold separately, rumors continue to persist that it could still possibly happen in the future. But until the publisher confirms the rumor (or denies it yet again), it appears that players who are looking forward to playing Modern Warfare in its remastered glory will have no choice but to purchase the Infinite Warfare ‘Legacy Edition’ when it comes out next month – disc and all.

Only children who thought they were going to be clever by trading in the disc will get upset with them for doing this.

Talked to a guy who worked at gamestop who had planned in doing this very thing. Tried to warn him...

I remember seeing a thread on Reddit concerning this and people were saying things like "If I want to buy Modern Warfare Remastered and not Infinity Ward, I should have the right to!!"
The entitlement of some people boggles my mind sometimes.

Sucks that you can't.
I would purchase the Remastered for say $29.99 but not spending full price for Infinite Warfare.

Serves gamers right for hating on the game so hard.
Activision is enacting it's own revenge, love it.

I'm sure it will eventually be released as a stand alone after the initial sales of infinite warfare come down. They get to double dip this way.

people still buy the new cod games?
more proof of the saying,"There's a sucker born every minute."?

Be interested to see how quickly those preorder numbers go down. Haven't bought a CoD game since Black Ops 2 and don't intend to any time soon, unless they just start with standalone remasters

Once the "I'll just trade in IW" narrative started, you knew this was coming, and as much as people will bitch about it, it's the obvious move. Activision knows what people are saying about the game, and you know at some point down the road, COD4 will be released stand alone, but of course they are going to cash in on the desperate nostalgia crowd.

this is the part i don't get. yeah, i agree with them attaching the remaster to the new installment as an added bonus for the people that want it. but why do they care what happens after the sale? they have their money. i can see a drop in dlc sales being a scary thought, but people that have made up their mind about not playing infinite warfare won't bother with that dlc any way. it just seems stupid to me.

I don't think it's the trade in their are concerned with as much as a straight up return. Don't you have like a week to return something for a full refund at most places?

Activision is just protecting their investment. Less trade ins mean more new purchases in the long run. They are people who never played MW and don't care. 9 years ago those people were 3-5 years old. Today, they just want the new jetpack wall running no recoil gun game, they don't care about the old shite. This keeps them from just buying the game used.

If the case is open, all you can do is exchange it. If the store no longer carries it, you might get store credit.

i bet you got super excited when you found this out.

I laughed.
I sincerely hope that they release it on it's own at some point, but of course they were going to take these precautions now. The only other way they would do this stand alone is if they took a year off from their regular releases.

The fact that they are being so anal retentive over this remaster just shows what little faith they have in the new game
Posted on 10/3/16 at 12:31 pm to BulldogXero
Probably not the case at all.
Posted on 10/3/16 at 12:33 pm to BulldogXero
They know if they didn't include the remaster no one would buy Infinite Warfare

They're still doing all right.
BLOPS 3 is showing fatigue, but they're still selling these games.
