The A.D. goes public with he's going to evaluate the entire program. This gives the indication that strong is on borrowed time.

I don't think it's quite fair for strong and I believe it show's Texas isn't a place that has patience.

Strong is in his third year. It appears he has Texas going in the right direction. They are more talented and competitive then they have been. He took over a talentless team where Mack had let it erode for to long. (Texas had zero draftees last year, the first time that had happened since 1937. The Longhorns haven't had an offensive player go in the first round since Vince Young in 2006, and they have had just one offensive player go as high as the second round since '07.)

Strong has improved the talent and you can see them making strides and getting better, even with Texas wanting to fire him in only his second year. This kind of instability makes it tough on coaches to perform and recruit.

I'm really curios as to why they aren't taking more heat for their lack of patience with a coach trying to rebuild? What does this say to other coaches who coach there? We'll hire you but you have our support for one year. year two you are on the hot seat, year three you are out.

Their defense is terrible and Strong is a defensive guy. It makes them doubt if he can do it.

I don't really know that I agree with your thoughts on him moving his team in the right direction. Offensively, maybe, but their defense appears to be as terrible as they've ever been. They gave up 47 to ND, 50 to Cal and 49 to Oklahoma State. You already know OU will put up 40+ next week, which isn't going to help his cause, even with a win.
Now granted, they're in the Big12 where defense isn't as highly valued as other conferences, but the point still remains.

I'm sort of with you on a coaching change though. Unless they were to get Herman, I'd probably give Strong another year. Don't play the coaching carousel unless you know for fact you'll be upgrading in the process:

Strong will be gone the day after the regular season and will make a strong run for Herman to keep him from going to USC or LSU...

That defense is horrible. Strong had two weeks to prepare for yesterday and produced a garbage effort.

If they are humiliated by Oklahoma, Strong may be done, regardless of what the AD said yesterday.

Tell me why it appears Charlie Strong has Texas going in the right direction? Because I guess I'm dumb; his defense just surrendered 100 points combined in back to back games

Vance needs to be fired today. Let Charlie try to fix the defense.

I felt that Strong should have cut bait last year.

To privately inquire in the Miami job.

Strong needs athletic DBs. The south, especially South Florida, has that.

Texas HS football can produce good Qbs and offensive talent, but is absolutely horrible at the defensive side of the ball.

LOL

Maybe a great position coach. But the man is not head coach material.

Have you ever heard him speak? He seriously sounds retarded.

Fact is they wouldn't get rid of him except to get Herman. But they will. Bad timing for lsu.

So do what A&M does a recruit from all over. Then hit up the JCs and look for transfers. Are you suggesting UTx can't recruit nationally at least as well as A&M? Of course they could have.

I talked with a Texas fan yesterday. He said he wants him to be successful because he is black.

I asked what does race have to do with it.

He said because it is going to be really hard to fire him, even if he goes 0-12

He's not moving the team in the right direction at all. Year 3 is when you are supposed to have your system and players in place.

Your defense was horrible when you joined the SEC. Y'all have adapted enough to win a majority of your games. Getting guys like Myles Garrett is a great example of Sumlin recognizing he difference in play.

look at the rosters across cfb

Majority of DBs come from the south. There is a search tool that I could not link. Will continue to look.

I believe it is the coaching philosophy and 7 on 7 in Texas high schools. Way too much emphasis on the offense.

The coach AND the players were terrible.

We set about upgrading the players by any means possible and upgraded the coaching majorly.

UTx has the resources and ability to have recruited the south for defensive players too. Charlie knows the south. In fact he TRIED to do that (The Florida 5 they called them), but almost all the players he targeted failed to qualify academically. He's a bad head coach. A good head coach would have had a plan and executed. Charlie knew what he needed to do but fumbled.
