If you're curious how Steve Ensminger called his games as OC over his career.

This is all the data I could find (rounded off to the nearest whole number) on Steve Ensminger in the years that he held the position of offensive coordinator. I was unable to find any data on the few years in the 80's where he held that position at McNeese St. I didn't post any of the stats for the defenses on the teams he worked for, but it looks like most were bad to average other than a couple of years at Texas A&M. For the most part, he had fairly balanced teams averaging 70 plays per game with 40 rushes and 30 passes for 350 yds per game and 26 points per game. Looking at some old film, it looks like he mixes up the passes with short & long stuff and doesn't seem to be afraid to throw it in the middle of the field. That's about as much as I could come up with today. Hope it satisfies the curiosity in all of us until we get to see it for real tomorrow. Personally, I'm pumped up. I hope he calls a great game. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

Thanks brother. I remember him calling plays for A&M back in the day, but my memory failed me as to how he actually called his games. I was very curious and thought others here might be as well. I'm just ready for a well called game. Geaux Tigers!!

Man you must've drilled down for that info. Nice find.
20+ years ago, however, I find it hard to believe it would be relevant as these guys evolve with the state of the game.

Yes, the game has changed allowing for more yards and points typically. I'm hoping it plays out even more into our favor of having a balanced, upbeat tempo, spreading it around, unafraid play calling, with more yards and points. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the extensive data digging; much appreciated!
If Ensminger has a good offensive concept, why his present was not felt in LSU offense under Cameron/Miles, especially when the offense was struggling?

Cam and miles alienated themselves from rest of staff. Steve imo will do much better. Krag is the offensive consultant also so maybe he will be utilized. He is a good offensive mind

Holy frick. Didn't know that dude was at McNeese

Appreciate the effort but what really matters is that the players execute the plays called and that the play calling is appropriate for the talent he puts on the field

I really hope so! But considering the preparation time between games is so limited for the team to learn and practice new/different offensive concepts, I don't expect too much for this season. Hope I'm completely mistaken though!

Less than 200 yards passing per game? That's not going to cut it on this board.

It all depends. Having your feature back running into 9 man fronts can lead to some third and longs. Basically with BH, it seemed like outside of the deep ball, we had no real passing game and certainly no answer to our third down situation. With DE, things could be different. Hopefully, we will throw some intermediate routes and use the tight end more to back out the opponents safeties. Then it is time to run it like a boss. 190 "effective" yards passing that lead to us controlling a game is fine by me.

Just have balance. Loosen up the defense a little bit. Make them respect the passing game...don't necessarily need over 200 passing yards a game...balance...get the ball to the playmakers in space. Once in a while...

Thought he was also OC at Auburn but can't recall the years. Missing from the analysis, but otherwise, amazing bit of homework. Thx for sharing.

Couldn't get data on his OC stint in the mid 80's at McNeese State. He was there a few years. He was at Auburn in the mid to late 2000's. First as a QB coach, then worked with TE's.

Went to school with Steve. He was a great friend of mine. I am just hoping he does a great job. No home, turmoil. I just want to see Steve catch a great break.
Beaux Tigers.

Think they also said he took over OC for a bad auburn team which won't help his numbers.

Wasn't his son a QB recruit a decade ago?
