DA, two seemingly random questions....

Would Briles have less baggage as an OC?
Any interest from, or in, Venables as HC (and Briles as OC)?

Yeah but the he's never had awesome talent at miss st. It's very hard to land recruits at that school.
I think you also have to consider Mullen was having his best success at MSST as OM was becoming a contender "next door", LSU and Bama were maintaining their high recruiting to the E & W, AR was re-establishing themselves to the NW, and TN was upping everything to the NE. What he's done at MSST has to be considered a success; and his time at UF was too.

I never understood how Miss St./Mullen get's a pass for not having talent. How is it harder to recruit at Miss St. than Ole Miss?

Ole Miss has never made it to Atlanta, State has under a different coach. secondly, they don't have the history of the rebel flag and Dixie. thirdly, Herman is at a more difficult school to attract talent and have success but it doesn't hold him back.

great coaches succeed wherever they go. Mullen would be hiring a coach to hire a coach. Howard schnellenburger (however you spell his name) made Miami something, Beamer made v-tech something, briles made Baylor something, saban made Mich st and lsu something, Harbaugh made Stanford something, Urban Meyer made Utah and Florida something.

what the hell has mullen made? Miss st. is about what they have always been under him. so they compete hard. I want a champion not a also ran.
