If Herman is in, Aranda is likely out

I truly believe Aranda will be a huge difference maker for this program. But I can see only one situation that would allow him to stay if Herman was named. If Herman was the guy he will more than likely have won 23 or 24 games in a two year stretch (maybe more) and there is no way he doesn't bring his DC with him.

The only way I see Aranda staying is if Herman's DC takes the head job at Houston on his departure.

Why wouldnt Herman want to keep one of the top DCs in the league? This post is pretty delusional considering they were roomates at one point.

They used to be roomates, and they babysat for Herman Johnson. Did you know that Herman was the largest baby born on louisiana?

Coaching with Aranda will probably weigh as another good reason to take the job.

He'll land on his feet, if he is not retained. Too much potential to fail.

Could he be offered the UH HC position or another HC/DC position?

Ummm actually Aranda would be one of many big reasons as to why Herman would want to come here... Aranda and Herman were roomates and very good friends. So I really doubt Aranda would be upset at all about that. If anything he is pushing for Herman to come.

They have not coached together, but they are friends (and brief roommates as pointed out above).

If Herman wants to bring his DC with him, that's fine - because he learned to coach defense under.

...drum roll...

Aranda

I'm sure all of hermans assistants were his top choices. UH giving him blank checks and all

Why do you think coaches run to schools that put more resources into football

Their DC made 500 last year, and their OC (major applewhite) made 300.
We pay almost double those combined salaries on both OC, and on DC.
800k vs almost 3 million dollar budget on Coordinators.

Herman didn't have aranda at UH not because he didn't want him, he couldn't afford him

Even if he does, Todd Orlando is an excellent DC. Not much of a drop, and he actually played at Wisconsin and followed Aranda as the DC at Utah State. His defenses are always Top 15 nationally in yards against.

Todd Orlando:

quote:

In his first year as defensive coordinator, UConn led the BIG EAST in total defense in 2006, ranking seventh in the nation. The team's 297.1 yards per game average for total defense was the program's best since 1979. His second season, 2007, saw UConn claim the BIG EAST Championship behind the nation's 10th-ranked passing efficiency defense and the 14th best scoring defense at 19.0 points allowed per game

quote:

In 2008, the UConn defense was ranked sixth in the country and among the national leaders in most major categories - including ninth in passing defense, 15th in interceptions and 22nd in scoring defense

quote:

During his first season at Utah State, Orlando's Aggie defense ranked first in the Mountain West and seventh in the nation in scoring allowing just 17.1 points per game, the second-fewest allowed by an Aggie defense since 1971. USU also ranked first in the Mountain West and eighth in the nation in rushing defense (106.7 ypg), its fewest allowed since 1968, first in the Mountain West and 12th in the nation in total defense (330.9 ypg), and first in the Mountain West and 15th in the nation in passing efficiency defense (113.2).

quote:

• In Orlando's two seasons at Utah State, the Aggies defense ranked among the nation's best in scoring defense (12th nationally in 2014 at 19.7 points per game, seventh nationally in 2013 at 17.1 points per game) and turnovers forced with 59 over two seasons, the nation's eighth-best two-year total, ranking 10th nationally in 2014 with 30 turnovers

quote:

His attacking defense was fourth nationally with 49 sacks on the year and second nationally with 114 tackles for loss in 2014 as Utah State advanced to back-to-to-back bowl games during Orlando's stay in Logan, Utah.

quote:

• Utah State's defense finished the 2013 season holding five of its final seven opponents to 14 or fewer points and did not give up more than 24 points in its last seven games, while its 14 points allowed to No. 24 Northern Illinois in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl was a USU bowl game record. USU also played in back-to-back-to-back bowl games for the first time in school history and won just its third bowl game ever in 2013. Utah State was also the only team in the nation not to allow a touchdown run of 10 or more yards in 2013, and allowed just two 100-yard rushers, while limiting its opponents to just 13 points following 16 turnovers.

quote:

• In Orlando's first season at Houston, his opportunistic and attacking defense forced 12 teams below their scoring average with the two teams eclipsing their average, doing so by less than one point. The defense led the nation with 35 takeaways while ranking eighth nationally in rushing defense (108.9 yards per game) and 20th nationally in scoring defense (20.7 points per game
