Alabama head coach Nick Saban on Les Miles firing. Evaluating the landscape of college football right now "I don't think things like this surprise me." Saban said that doesn't mean he agrees with it. He thinks that firing a head coach during the season "probably isn't the best way to go about it." Saban has had a lot of respect for Miles for a long time and thinks that there's a better way to handle that situation. Saban mentioned Miles' impressive winning percentage (77 percent) and added that "College football doesn't need to do these kinds of things, but what I think doesn't really matter."

Well Duh! He's just angry that he can't prepare for a one-deminsional offense anymore!

He will actually have to gameplan this year.

He fricked up to the tune of multiple national championships, multiple Heismans, and the highest paid in CFB.

Real big frick up there.

On a broader note, Saban criticized Tennessee for firing Dooley, just to put his perspective on coach firings in context.

I think Saban is a great football mind who (a) is very partisan towards coaches, and (b) just maybe is a better coach than administrator.

Saban doesn't Really worry about who he faces, he has faced essentially every "great" coach in the game. Do you think O and Ensminger are more worrying than Dabo or Meyer or Dantonio?

You need to read between the lines. His language on this seems a little softer then it was initially. Is it because Sexton and Alleva have already been talking?

Don't think he'd ever come back here but I do think he's about to use us to rape Bama for more bucks.

He knows there is a better than even chance he might be coaching here again. He's not going to put that in jeopardy by commenting at length. Playing his cards right.

Saban is probably truly worth double what Bama is paying him.

Obviously Saban is the type of coach who would gameplan against a HS team, but he had won 5 in a row over LSU.

I don't think NS was as worried about the LSU game as the OM game. LSU's offense is too predictable for a defense of their calibre and Saban knows this.

It's just common sense to want a guy to keep coaching that you had won 5 in a row against. It's the same reason why LSU fans want Sumlin to stay at aTm. Saban knew what to expect with a Les Miles coached team.

NS doesn't know what to expect when LSU plays him this year.

By the time November rolls around he will know plenty. He has staff members assigned to each opponent who break down tendencies and personnel for each game.

Who the opponent's coach might be is of no consequence to him. He prepares for each one in turn based on the information and analysis of his staff.

I remember hearing that Saban had some issues with our boosters when he was at LSU. Anyone think he's taking a shot at them with these comments? Or maybe a warning to other coaches that are considering the opening that they will have to deal with 'less than ideal' administration/boosters.

Probably the best indicator of Saban's opinion of the LSU brain trust was when he suggested that Houston Nutt follow him.

I wonder what it would take for a coach like Saban to say "yea, he was a dufus coach that couldn't win the big ones."
