That was 2 situations where programs had to be revived vs. a program that returned most of their talent from the previous season, started out in the Top 5 in the preseason polls and had national title hopes. That one game immediately signaled that things would never get better under Carr.

Brady Hoke had a great career at Michigan off of Rich Rod's players. Once the well went dry so did he. The Michigam people didn't give RR enough time to turn them around. Was too damn impatient. He was getting his players there just like Saban did at LSU, but LSU was patient with Nicky. That's the difference.

Coaches that have been around like that do have that mentality I will do it my way until they run me out of here.
I do agree if Miles can't update the offense and utilize the personnel than he needs to call it a career. You think he would've learned after the end of last season but when you have all offseason to change something and don't it's on Miles. Truth will come out again when they play the difficult part of the schedule and the Bama measuring stick.
With that said, I sure hope LSU doesn't set the program back like what happened to Michigan and countless others like Nebraska and Tenn.

[quoteS]ee it goes both ways. Fear of a potential bad hire is no reason not to make a move.[/quote]
It does go both ways, but more often than not, it doesn't work out well. Still no reason not to make a move IMO. But the pitfalls are there. Look at all these long tenured coaches:
Look at UTenn after Fulmer, UF after Spurrier, UTex after Brown, UM after Carr, ND after Holtz, Nebraska, Penn State,
Hell Bama was very spotty for a long long time before Saban. USC struggling to find another Pete Carrol.
FSU is the only one that comes to mind that has been successful so far.

Supposedly Les banged Carrs wife and there's still bad blood between the two.

Lloyd Carr was a year removed from barely missing out on the national championship game. Les hasn't accomplished shite in 5 years.

Michigan brought in Rich Rod who tried to install a spread system with players that weren't recruited for that. Maybe if he had some more time to get players for his system it could have worked out.
The big lesson here is that LSU doesn't need to go to an all out spread in one season or with the next coach. They need more creativity within the Pro Style (like Mich St, Stanford, Georgia ect.) Trying to go from a power team to a spread team overnight isn't a great recipe for success like Michigan found out.

Michigan State talent <<<<< Louisiana State Talent

UTenn after Fulmer,

UF after Spurrier

UTex after Brown, UM after Carr

You have to be able to recruit and coach to win in CFB. Teams that are good have one or the other. Great teams have both.
From the schools you mentioned, UF, Tx, UM, ND, Bama, USC, and FSU can get the talent through branding. And when they get good coaching, they go to and/or win championships. LSU should fit with the group. They are just missing the players or the coaching. I'll let you decide which one it is.

At first, it looked like Michigan was going to trade an old Carr for one with Les Miles, but ultimately decided, why settle for Les if you can get Rich Quick?
The Rich Rod eventually blew a gasket.

While that holds some truth, anyone not worried about our current president and AD making a football hire is not playing with a full deck.
List to us all the named football schools who made successful hires on their first try after forcing a successful coach? Now, list the ones who did. I know which list will be longer. Do you?
Acting as if replacing Miles will be easy, is a fools thinking.

He was replaced by a new, innovative offensive mind (thought to be one of the best in football at that time) by the name of Rich Rodriguez which started a 6 year downturn for the program.
This is my biggest fear with everyone wanting Miles out. Yes, he can be frustratingly stubborn. However, the guy wins games. The problem is that lately he just isn't winning the big games.

The problem I see is in people becoming comfortable with under achieving. I don't think you ever achieve much of anything without taking risk.
I distinctly remember many people I ran into who still didn't want to give it up on Dinardo. I attribute the that to a fear of what might happen than taking a chance on what could happen. LSU has ALWAYS been a sleeping giant and Louisiana a bastion for talent, and talent that really wants to go to LSU. Saban simply walled off the state, recruited his butt off and remained focused on excellence and execution. This is not necessarily something we see with Les who recruits exceptionally, but simply does not do the latter very well.
spot on

Sure did....20 years later and after 5 diff coaching changes after Lou Holtz. My point is still valid.

I agree with all of this......my only argument is do I trust those in charge at LSU to find another great coach or send us into years of mediocrity with a bad hire. It could easily go either way.

Bull freaking shite. We were stale with Lloyd Carr.
Also, we were at least able to win a Sugar Bowl during that drought. We're sitting pretty high right now with Harbaugh. The program hasn't been this energized and enthusiastic in quite some time.

Also Cooper/Jim Tressell at OSU. Cooper and Miles are very similar statistically
Also Cooper couldn't beat Michigan just like Les can't beat Alabama.
