Never really noticed how similar of a career these two have. Carr spent 13 seasons at Michigan with a 122-40 record. Won a national championship in his 3rd season. And also claimed 5 Big Ten titles.

Very similar to the path Les has taken LSU. Although Carr was allowed to retire, it was very well known that Michigan forced him out.

He was replaced by a new, innovative offensive mind (thought to be one of the best in football at that time) by the name of Rich Rodriguez which started a 6 year downturn for the program.

Yeah I think this was discussed not too long ago, a parallel no doubt.

It was time to get rid of Carr. The mistake was hiring rich rod.

Fsu forced out Bowden and promoted jimbo. It worked out.

See it goes both ways. Fear of a potential bad hire is no reason not to make a move.

The problem is that for every 1 saban that you come across, you will have to work through 3 dinardos.

Top tier coaches are not easy to find. A lot of guys who seem promising don't turn out to be as advertised. Keep in mind Rich Rod was very successful at W.V. which is not the easiest place to win at....

the only problem with your comparison is that the career comparison is accurate and factual but the implication that LSU will implode post Miles is not.

yes, it CAN happen. but just because it happened at Michigan doesn't mean it will at LSU.

one thing I would say tho is that really good HC's that fit a particular college do not grow on trees (even tho the idiots on here think they do). Miles, a yankee, was able to "fit in" with the LA culture and embrace it. this translated into very successful recruiting.

whoever the next coach is, he better put together a "recruiting staff" par excellent. four and five star athlete's have their pick of programs no matter what some say.

Carr was one year removed from the rose bowl. Which he guided Michigan to in 3 of his last 5 years. His final season was a 9-4 year with a capital 1 bowl victory.

You have no clue whatsoever of what you're talking about regarding the Michigan situation to make this argument. '

The problem I see is in people becoming comfortable with under achieving. I don't think you ever achieve much of anything without taking risk.

I distinctly remember many people I ran into who still didn't want to give it up on Dinardo. I attribute the that to a fear of what might happen than taking a chance on what could happen. LSU has ALWAYS been a sleeping giant and Louisiana a bastion for talent, and talent that really wants to go to LSU. Saban simply walled off the state, recruited his butt off and remained focused on excellence and execution. This is not necessarily something we see with Les who recruits exceptionally, but simply does not do the latter very well.

I would imagine that no Michigan fan would want to remember that game.

Already forgotten what ensured Carr's downfall?

Look how awesome LSU is right now with all those 5 stars. Most NFL players in the league and haven't really been in the hunt for a conference division title since 2011.

Rodriguez wasn't at Michigan 6 years and I would take him now to replace Miles.

Also Cooper/Jim Tressell at OSU. Cooper and Miles are very similar statistically, and both criticized for not doing more with elite NFL talent.

Rich rod was there for 3. That led to the Brady Hoke era. One good season of relief for Hoke (his 1st)
