Sometimes you don't have a choice

I grew up with a friend of mine who's dad would sell their food stamps for crack. Poor bastard had to hustle just to eat. Never had a chance. He would ask his dad for food and his dad would beat his arse. Looking back on this now I truly wonder how many of those "thugs" (which he was to this day) had to endure this kind of treatment.

A choice for what? Your rambling did not clarify

You're a product of your environment. Some break the cycle and some continue the shite show.

The vast majority. Upbringing plays a huge role in the person you grow up to be.

Yep. That's exactly what depresses me.
Constant (and growing) cycle of don't-give-a-shite-about-being-a-productive-member-of-society.

It sucks. Kids who go through shite like this grow up to be a piece of shite just like their motherfrickin' father and then the cycle continues.

Probably a majority in one way or another. The only solution is to curb the breeding, but it's hard to imagine that ever happening. I have zero faith that some great person will someday lead them out of the wilderness in numbers great enough to make a difference.
