The few times I've seen guys in military dress in bars, I assumed it was something like this. I'm guessing dudes weren't putting on their uniforms just to hit up Fred's.

F That...

You aren't officially "in the Navy" until you've wrecked a set of dress whites by going to a bar and getting someone else's blood on you.

in the case of Top Gun...and I'm just playing devil's advocate here...bar could have been on base and Top Gun is a training command...wasn't that like their first night there?...could have been a requirement until they were through a certain phase of the training...

in P'Cola...the base club will be filled to the brim with sailors in uniform in the first few weeks of training..

or...it could have just been good ole Hollywood movie making...

remember during my sophomore year there was some marines who went to tigerland in their dress blues.

That's just ill advised. But I appreciate the sentiment. Trying to get pussy with the uniform. And depending on year and conflicts going on, they may have gotten a going away piece.

We once saw 2 dudes with t-shirts on The Quarter. They had written "going to Iraq" or something like it. Had people writing on their shirts. Good luck etc. but they were also firing on my buddy's and my wife. they had to 21 each but barely and our wives were mid 30's at the time.

Was the deceased ex-military?

Doesn't Kutcher get into a bar fight in "The Guardian". I don't remember if he is in uniform but I know it all starts because he is in the wrong bar.

What if a guy puts on Marine dress blues on the 4th of July and walks around the downtown celebration attired in that manner?

He was in the Marines for four years and left the service about 35 years ago. As he walks around the crowd, he introduces himself as "Staff Sergeant ....".

Is that OK? Is that "douchey"?

Same facts but change the branch of service to Coast Guard. OK? "Douchey" ?

Questions like these sometimes get inconsistent answers, so, I though I'd ask.

Just an FYI, most of us couldn't wait to get out of a uniform when we weren't required to wear one. It's my opinion that this guy had no other option. Otherwise I promise most people would rather wear a nice suit as opposed to his class A's.

I'm more reffering to someone in a full duty uniform having drinks at a Mexican restaurant on Friday at noon.

As long as the business is not primarily in the business of serving alcoholic beverages (i.e. bar or lounge), then it is within regulations.

Again, a person should not be getting drunk though. I've gone directly from drill to an anniversary party at a restaurant. Of course I'm a teetotaler, so there was no problem in that area. But, to be completely honest, I was not comfortable doing it - just didn't have any other choice based on the circumstances.
