Landscape fabric for weed control

A few months ago, I put down landscape fabric and mulch in an area next to a walkway. Everything thing was fine until today when I noticed some nutsedge weeds had grown through the fabric. Should I use a higher quality fabric or is it a losing battle as the nutsedge will grow through any landscape fabric?

Losing battle. Nutsedge will grow through anything.

As far as I know, it's a barrier not a cover. Kill the weeds with spray as they pop up.

No.
Pull the weeds and spray round up.
Hit it each weekend for a few weeks and you should be good. It's just needs a good spraying for a while and you will solve the problem

Wild turkeys will take care of this.

Man, that shite is for noobs. Weeds grow in cracks in concrete with no soil. It's gonna grow on top of your fabric.
Spay roundup one week, pull the next, repeat for the rest of your life.

No shite I believe you could pour a 3 inch slab as a flowerbed and still walk out to check the mail and have sedge looking you dead in the eye

There's only one product that will kill nutsedge and it's called Sedgehammer. Get it on Amazon. I've used it and it works. Whatever you do do not pull it up. It will break off and leave the nuts in the soil and spread more.

Round up will not kill nutsedge...hurts it a bit, but it will come right back. There are stronger products out there.

Nutsedge invaded my yard like nazi's taking over France. I am dropping th sedgehammer on it as soon as the rain stops.

The problem is not the fabric if it is high quality(lower quality have visible gaps and it will push through) It's the decaying mulch on top of the fabric that allows the sedge and other weeds to set roots which in turn eventually push through the fabric and create gaps for weeds to grow after you spray the ones that are there now. Vicious cycle. I rocked a bunch of my beds and it is low maintenance just spray once every two weeks and I'm good. I constantly work in people's yards and the best thing I can tell you is if you have a sedge problem you need to be spraying your yard as well as the beds.
Anyone who thinks there are "maintenance free" flower beds is silly.

Go to a garden supply house and get some SedgeHammer. That'll take care of it.
